Hue Jackson and Todd Haley Fired

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Browns did draft 2 players they saw at the Senior Bowl last year. 3, if you count Zane Gonzalez (who is a kicker and therefore you should not count him).

But they were Matt Dayes (with their last pick) and Mr. Ogunjobi (who looks pretty decent). Now, did they take those guys because Hue got attached or because the scouting department concurred with Hue's assessment of their performance at the Senior Bowl? Ogunjobi wasn't even on the team we coached.

We also ended up with Zach Banner who got cut by the Colts super early despite being a 4th round pick.

7

@ minimum 3-5 through the first 8 games
And .500 ball to finish the year

6 or 7 take your pick. But does anyone actually seriously think Hue can do that, like is Haslam the only guy on the face of the planet that thinks thats possible?

"I can't speak for Jimmy Haslam, but this unbiased reporter thinks that with an infusion of talent on the roster, there is no reason why Hue Jackson could not coach the Browns to 13-15 wins."

Seriously I think it will depend on who is added at quarterback (and other positions to a lesser extent). If we get a guy who's actually been a starter and won some games, and have spent a good amount of money on key positions in free agency, and all our recent and upcoming draft picks stay healthy, I agree that 6-8 wins will be necessary, and he better not drop more than 3 games under .500 at any point during the season until perhaps the very end. A 1-4 or 2-5 start will likely get him canned.

How's this for required wins for each potential QB to save Hue's job?
Kirk Cousins: 8 wins required
Alex Smith, Sam Bradford: 7
Tyrod Taylor: 6 wins

If all we can muster at QB is a career backup whose sole qualification is that he's a veteran, then there will/should be some more leeway given. If you're running Chase Daniel and then a rookie QB out there I don't know if I can really blame you for 5-11. Of course if it's Hue's hand-picked QB AJ McCarron then that goes out the window.

I think 2 major things need to happen for us to even think about a chance to reach that many wins

1) OC - and please give him playcalling duties

2) QB upgrade - and I don't necessarily think that a rookie QB will reach that win total. Vet QB is detrimental to us. Mccarron or Daniels type of fa at minimum. Cousins or trading for Smith and I think the bar should be set at fighting for a playoff spot and not just 6-7 wins. Realistic? Ehh, I guess. Feasible? Woooh boy

Yes. I don't think we're nearly that far from having a good, talented team. I think this team should have won at least 3-4 games this season if properly coached.

Our offensive line is actually good already. So let's say we sign an Alex Smith or Cousins. We add a first rate back like Barkley in the draft, and have a right-headed Josh Gordon, second-year Njoku and third year Coleman....you've got at least an average offense with a veteran QB. Add a stud DB from the draft and some more depth elsewhere, and you've got a good young defense. I think a team like that, with a good coach, might swing 9 wins if things go well.

With Hue, sure, an outside shot at 6. And that's kind of what terrifies me. This team is set up so well personnel wise that I think even Hue isn't going to be able to screw it up completely again. He may well pull enough wins to keep his job, even though he won't deserve to do so.

serious question how many wins does Hue need next year to keep his job in 2019? I would have to think its at least 6 right?

He needs to win the AFC North. John Dorsey already said so.

The only explanation I’ve come up with is Jimmy Haslam must see a lot of himself in Hue, and has therefore taken a liking to him and doesn’t want to fire him.

Hue has always had a good relationship with those he worked under. He called Al Davis "coach" when he was the Raiders head coach, as I remember from old press conferences. That's a nice sign of respect for senile old Zombie Davis who often got in his own way. Hue is known for great people skills... and maybe it's time to rethink why his track record was so dissimilar under the pro-tank GM. I think the losses brought out the worst in Hue... but the losses brought out the worst in a lot of people.

The real crappy part of all this is when Hue gets fired, it's going to mean that everything the team and shiny young QB learned about Hue's offense is going to be tossed out the window when the new coach brings in his own system.

Another wasted year coming up....

Fans included....

Not speaking of anyone here, some fans I routinely speak to have just become people that are not able to hold a sports conversation with lately.

Has anyone looked at the schedule? They'll be lucky to win 4 games unless the team gets dramatically better this offseason.

This isn't anything new with Hue, sadly. After his season ended in 2011 with Oakland, he went on a rant:

"I'm pissed at my team," he began. "At some point in time, as a group of men … you can say whatever you want about coaches, but [players] win the game. Here's your time. Here's your time to make some plays. We didn't get them stopped, and we didn't make enough plays. So, yeah — I'm pissed at the team. Like I always tell them, I put it on me as well, but I am also pissed at my team. Because when you have those kinds of opportunities, you have to do it. And we didn't do it."

"Chuck (His DC) knows how I feel," Jackson said. "I'm disappointed over there. I have been. It's not like we haven't had conversations. Chuck knows what I feel, and it's not good enough ... When you play defense in the NFL, man, you've got to hunt. You can't give up 28, 29 points and expect to win."

"I'm not making no more excuses for anybody. I've taken this thing on all year, and … look. We don't tackle very well in the secondary, we don't make the plays you've gotta make in the secondary to be successful, and we're not where we need to be yet. It's my job, and I'm gonna get it fixed.

"I'm going take a stronger hand in this whole team, this whole organization," he said. "There ain't no way that I'm going to feel like I feel today a year from now, I promise you that. There's no question. Defensively, offensively and special teams. I ain't feeling like this no more. This is a joke. I'm going to take a hand in everything that goes on here."

TRADE FOR BELICHICK

BRING HIM HOME
BYE HUE

I think it would be an incredible thing to witness. Its why I oddly don't "hate" Belichick. He's actually gone on record (SEVERAL) times about how he regrets that the football team that bares the name "Cleveland Browns" is a complete joke now.

It's the epitome of fantasy though.
First off? If he's walking away? I think he just walks away and fucks around doing whatever he wants.
Second off? The New York Giants have an opening even if he did leave.
Third off? How is our owner, who has gone on record with his srubborn attitude about spending money on a new coach? going to pull this off?

Well, I stand corrected. I said I couldn't imagine any coach ever throwing his team and organization under the bus publicly the way Hue has recently, but I didn't think about Hue himself.

Well played, @MoFlo . Well played.
