Iman Shumpert: Gone! Thank God!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I disagree. I could see LeBron leaving for Houston or OKC (if George & Westbrook re-sign) before he goes to the Spurs. The only other option, as I see it, is Philadelphia, as their LeBron loves Ben Simmons' game and the Sixers young stars are still on rookie contracts.

LeBron's not leaving to go to any team in the West. That would be stupid for many reasons. But, not least of which, is the fact that other than Boston, he's got a REALLY good shot at making the finals for a decade if he stays in the East.

How would Houston or OKC afford LeBron?

They have to do some crazy slary dumps, almost have to lose their entire bench and inspite of all that, LeBron may have to end up taking far far less than what he could get here.

I agree that LeBron going west doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I was just saying I thought Houston or OKC were more likely options than San Antonio.

LeBron's championship window is closing fast, as he's getting older and Boston & Philadelphia are primed to dominate the East for the next decade. It's not inconceivable that one of them could knock off the Cavs right now. Boston is loaded with draft picks and might be able to add a Michael Porter to their young core.

We know all too well that LeBron is all about forming superteams. Quite simply, he'll leave Cleveland if he can team up with some other stars and it gives him a better opportunity to win additional titles.

I only see LeBron considering the Spurs out West, but I'd think he would highly consider Philadelphia in the East. He likes Ben Simmons and AI was his idol, which meant he probably was a fan of those 6ers teams. They have youth and with a presence like LeBron they could quickly become the top East team. Other than that nowhere else gives him a better chance than where he is now.

For sure, but if he was going to do that, this was the year. All the people he might have teamed up with will be on long contracts after this season. Except for Paul George, who will be going to LA (in the West).

And, keep in mind, aside from him joining the Warriors, the Cavs are going to be his best chance at a championship for at least 2-3 more years.

Our big 3 is still VERY formidable. So, I just don't see any scenario where he leaves.

I can't see Lebron going to the Spurs. Lebron is not going to let Pop scream in his face on national TV and control what Lebron does on and off the court.

Shump was on @midnight last night and had a few good jokes. Plus he shaved his head.

If the jokes didn't revolve around his own pathetic play in the finals then who cares what Shump is doing.

I have a feeling he'll be better this year.

It's not easy playing with the same intensity and focus the year after willing a championship. Guys tend to lax and some of the Cavs pieces did.

Shump is a young guy who will start playing for that next contract. I can see him and JR both picking it up this year.

He can opt out after this year so it is possible he could be more motivated in attempts to cash in again next summer.

Definitely agree on JR with all the shit he went through with the premie baby. Now that his life has calmed down I expect next year to be a big jump in consistency for him.

I hope we end up moving Shump for something better. I know he's young, but he just seems pretty self-unaware about what his role is supposed to be here. If he's not playing lock down D then he is pretty much garbage. Dude needs to focus like a laser beam and prove he is worth what we paid him if he is still here.

Shump is on a CHEAP contact, 10 M a year I believe. Unless the can move him in a package for a fourth star (Melo etc), I don't see what they can trade him for and get back in terms of contract value.

We all have a tendency to pick on this dude, but for what he is getting paid in terms of todays NBA contracts, he's pretty cheap. Young, long athletic wing player.

Can he improve? Absolutely. But I'm not inclined to simply let him walk for nothing- he does provide roster flexibility.

If we don't move him in a Melo deal I want him gone in exchange for a serviceable rim protector (Koufos is my ideal target.)

I've been one of the biggest Shump defenders on this board the past couple years and I'm pretty exasperated at this point. The flashes that he shows 15% of the time aren't worth the middling-to-lousy 85% the rest.

If we commit ourselves to developing Cedi then our SG rotation is set and The Artist Formerly Known as Shumpert is unnecessary.

John Henson maybe?

I've been a Shump defender as well and agree it's time to move on, but we shouldn't just give him away. He finally stayed healthy. He actually played very well in the first part of the season while JR was out. Also he's still kind of our only option when we're facing a point guard that Kyrie can't guard. But his bball IQ is still just so bad. If we are going to play at a fast pace against GS (which is something I disagree with) then Shump is going to keep making those really dumb plays.
