Iman Shumpert: Gone! Thank God!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I've been a Shump defender as well and agree it's time to move on, but we shouldn't just give him away. He finally stayed healthy. He actually played very well in the first part of the season while JR was out. Also he's still kind of our only option when we're facing a point guard that Kyrie can't guard. But his bball IQ is still just so bad. If we are going to play at a fast pace against GS (which is something I disagree with) then Shump is going to keep making those really dumb plays.

This is the major reason he hasn't taken a big leap. If we could somehow transplant RJ's head into Shump's body, we'd have quite the wing player on our hands.

If we don't move him in a Melo deal I want him gone in exchange for a serviceable rim protector (Koufos is my ideal target.)

I've been one of the biggest Shump defenders on this board the past couple years and I'm pretty exasperated at this point. The flashes that he shows 15% of the time aren't worth the middling-to-lousy 85% the rest.

If we commit ourselves to developing Cedi then our SG rotation is set and The Artist Formerly Known as Shumpert is unnecessary.

I almost rather have Koufos for Shmp than Melo for anything except a buyout.

I just dont think melo moves the needle enough to give up assets for him but Koufos could be amazing here.

I don't know if Shump is one of the people who responds well to negative criticism but I also don't care

At this point if I'm Altman I sit him down and say listen here fucker, you're a fucking joke. You're 27 years old on a contract not even taking up 10% of the current cap space and we can't even find a team who will take you FOR FREE.

You had one good half season. Back when you gave a damn. Now you're just a useless parasite sucking at the teet of our success. It's mostly your fault this team can't make any type of jump and you'd rather rap pure trash heap garbage songs than try to better yourself on the court

You're useless in every sense of the word. No one wants you and unfortunately we're stuck with you. I'm sure you won't do a damn thing to reward us for our faith in you to give you $40 million dollars. You'll probably just take the year to sulk now that someone was mean to you. You're such a sad story of wasted potential

This would light such a tremendous fire under my ass to do everything possible to prove that fucker wrong. My guess is Shump would just sulk like a little pussy, but really best case out of this is it lights a fire under his ass and he actually makes an attempt to improve and worst case is he sulks all year and opts out so we are free of this gutless fraud next year

Iv been a Shump apologist for so long but I finally got off the bandwagon this playoffs.

Dude makes too many mental errors to ever utilize his physical gifts. Watching him play is just a chore. When hes hitting its fun but his lows are just so freaking low. Missing open shots, passing up open 3s to take contested 2s. Playing bad defense when hes the 2nd most athletic guy on the team. Its just too much.

I think the fact that there is NO market for him is telling. 4 years ago youd a been able to get a high 1st round pick for Shumpert.

Shumpert is one of those guys that piss you off. Because hes got the physical tools to be elite on D, and he just isn't. Draymond Green is an undersized, stocky guy and shouldn't be able to play such good D but hes the DPOTY.

This is another reason why scouting must be the hardest job in sports.

I would show Lebron tapes of how Jordan at age 32-35 didn't take plays off on defense, and that the rest of the team including Shumpert would take after Lebron's defensive effort like how the Bulls took after Jordan's. I'd explain to Lebron that Jordan was a master at conserving his energy with how he picked his spots to drive to the basket more and spent more time in the post. If Lebron not having a Pippen forces him to play free safety, all the more reason to conserve energy on offense. Go to Kevin Love in the post beyond the first quarter so Lebron can have more energy for defense. That's how you get Shumpert to play defense like he's capable of. Singling out Shumpert is the last thing I would do. The team culture of taking plays off on defense is such that if Draymond Green or Moute were here, they likely wouldn't be the defensive players they were with their former teams.

This right here makes a ton of sense. Lebron could get a lot more rest during the regular season if we featured Love's post game more. I think it would also keep Love more in synch heading into the playoffs.

I agree with your general point but Draymond is a defensive anchor /stud. He sets the defensive tone. He would be the same guy here. He's that good. Draymond is not only good because of his situation. His situation accentuates his offensive game and.makes it more effective than it really is, but defensively, he's the real deal. He would be the same on that end here.

Mbah a Moute...maybe...but he was a good defender as a rookie on bad Milwaukee teams. It's literally the only thing keeping him in the league/paid, so I think he'd be fine too.

But I agree with how important setting the tone defensively is.

I think we're keeping Kyrie. So maybe we can make this work for everyone. LeBron can focus more on setting the defensive tone, while handing Kyrie the keys to the offense. Give everyone what they want. Kyrie can lit average 30/8 and make our offense 10% worse as long LBJ commits to making our defense 50% better. Kyrie is going to also have to fight through some fkn screens though....ugh..

If we do this, Kyrie is going to HAVE to be better at getting guys involved than he was in the first 3 months LBJ coming back, but his good stretches of assist games last year lead me to believe he has it in him.

No reason Kyrie can't average 30 a game and LeBron average 23-10reb-8ast. Let Kyrie take all the clutch shots too. Make him happy. Get him an all NBA nod. Beg him to fight through screens at least 25% of the time instead of 0.

We'd win 60 games easily this way and maybe even have a better shot against GS.

With the addition of Crowder, do we move Shump for someone that can actually defend PGs? Does Shump have a place on this team with both JR and Crowder?

With today's news...this gives me hope he can work some magic and find someone to take this bum off our hands

Serious question: does shump have the lowest dunk fg% in cavs history?

Will someone please make a video of Shumpert's missed dunks / mental lapses alongside the sweet sounds of Yakety Sax?

We really need to start showcasing him and he's void of recent highlight videos.
