Iman Shumpert: Gone! Thank God!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Fuck, it's like Boobie Gibson's soul is living inside of him. Why doesnt he care more?

Dave McMenamin
Not only was there news about Iman Shumpert returning to the lineup today just six days after spraining his left foot, but Cavs coach Tyronn Lue said that Shumpert will be Cleveland's first substitution off the bench when Derrick Rose comes out in the first quarter. Right now, these are the guaranteed contract guys out of Cleveland's rotation: Channing Frye, Richard Jefferson, Ante Zizic, Jose Calderon and Cedi Osman.

I don't get why Ty is preferring Shump at the point and not Wade with JR at the shooting guard

Oh look, the guys that need the minutes to develop won't get them and the guy that doesn't deserve them will.

...already sick of Lue, and the season hasn't started.

Oh look, more pointless overreaction to a preseason game before the 82 game season even begins.

Any hope to trade Shump without having to attach an outgoing draft pick starts with him actually playing.

Secondly, Ante is under team control for 4-5 years. Cedi for at least 3. Neither of them deserve a nightly rotation spot until they earn it. Their focus should be on measuring up to NBA pros in practice, absorbing every thing they can from the habits of LeBron, Wade, Love, Crowder etc. And when they do get their minutes, play loose and impress.

Shump has been inconsistent as hell but has shown in several stretches of his careee that he can have an actual useful role.

Rushing Shump back so he re-injures the foot and has a chemistry-preserving excuse to be pulled from the rotation.

I see you Lue. Like a fox.

Shump shouldn't even be in the rotation. First off the bench over JR? I want Green to take all his minutes.

Shump as the first man off the bench? As a backup PG?

Holy fuck. Lue is off the rails.

Except it’s not a pointless reaction because this is how he was used last year and it was a mess.

Shump let me down last year. I expected him to bounce back from his injury season of 2015-2016 and he fell flat. Took a big step back.

Last year we had two on ball playmakers. Kyrie and LeBron. We also started the season with just two PGs.

This year we start with Rose, LeBron, and Wade. We also have IT returning sometime in Dec. With 4 on ball playmakers, if Shump refuses to stay on his lane or not understand what his lane is, I expect him to get put in his place/role, either by the staff or by the other players.

Now, if he doesn't step up his defense, all of that is moot. But at least he still is athletic enough and has the 2014-2015 playoffs on his resume that shows he at least CAN make a positive impact in the ECF and Finals.

Will he? Probably not, but given how there is zero trade market for him, I get investing a final chance in him of him putting it together rather than just wasting a roster spot on him rotting away.

Hopefully midseason we package him with a future 1st for some one like Thad Young or Avery Bradley anyways.

Fuck you, Lue.

Shumpert is REALLY going to be the first guy off the bench?!?!?!?

So stupid.

That was just for today, lads. Ty is just experimenting.

Doubt he would have Shump as the first one off the bench when the season starts!

I understand playig Shump to try to increase his trade value, but would it matter? teams probably figured out who is at this point. A couple of months of above average production for him maybe seen as a fluke like it has been for the last few years.

How do you want Cedi and Ante to develop if they barely get any touches? Cedi standing at the 3pt line for consecutive possessions isn't going to allow him to develop. I'm tired of this system that limits capable players and eventually relegates them to catch and shoot players and thus puts a ceiling to how good they for the team strictly by their 3pt% on the offensive side. Players can be good without an elite 3pt shot and can contribute in other ways.
If Cedi continutes to be such an aftersought then he is fuced and the Cavs lose a potentially valuable player.

Same thing with Crowder, do you think he is going to like playing like that? He barely got any touches on offense and once he did get a touch he launched it from 3. Players share the ball when they know they might recieve the ball right back.
Saying tht it's preseason is an excuse. They played hard, but the offense looked poorly coached and lacked fit.

It's been going on like this for years, it's not just Lebron and Lue. It was the same when Irving got to play as the lead guard. As an example, yeah, I know that we liked to hate on Casspi, but this situation reminds me so much of his time here. He was advertised as an all-around player, but once he got here everytime he got the ball he launched it from 3 and most often than not bricked it. Then he was traded and finaly looked like a good a slasher, decent passer and a good 3pt shooter.

Cedi's skillset and build kinda reminds me of Asspi, the biggest difference is that he has a much higher BB IQ, doesn't have the same level of confidence and he is at the early states of his development. Playing him like that is going to screw him up because he doesn't know who the fuck he is. The coaching staff has to mentor him and put him in a position to succeed and it doesn't look like they are doing a very good job at that.

So yeah, this game frustrated the shit out of me, because I'm seeing the same trend and the same basic playing style, but this time we don't have the personnel on the floor to make it work because of Lue and unmanaged Egos.
