J.J. Hickson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Today, for the first time in his career, I saw Hickson have a nose for the ball and also showed that he does have hands after all. I was impressed...if he keeps this up for a good stretch of games, esp. while Mo is out, I can see him going back to the untouchable part of the roster (unless for a star, of course). But I doubt that'll happen, he'll probably go back to playing like crap, and he'll be a throw in for some trade.

I believe his 14 rebounds were tied with the third best rebounding total by a Cleveland player this year - in an intense game against a tough team. Have to give him credit where credit is due. Up till now I have considered him the weakest link. But if he could bump a couple areas of his game to average - (I`ll take rebounding and defense for now) all of a sudden our front court becomes more formidable. Here`s pulling for a couple more double-doubles in the next few games,:fingersx:

Completely give him credit and yes he is young, but there is a difference that you can see between him and others at his position. To me the thing that you cant really teach is his body control, he has not progressed since last year in that department and still seems to be out of control on a regular basis.

I say trade him while his stock is high, which is exactly why I think he is a starter this year. Ferry is building his value up!!

The thing is about message boards is that fans only want to trade players who aren't playing well...Good to see JJ have a good game. He's now like most players in the league, capable of having an occasional good game.

Looks like it was a team effort to get JJ motivated before the game tonight.

Cleveland Cavaliers forward J.J. Hickson thinks outside the box, turns in stellar performance
By Mary Schmitt Boyer, The Plain Dealer

During Thursday morning's shootaround, J.J. Hickson's teammates reminded him none too subtly about his poor performance the last time the Los Angeles Lakers visited The Q.

In that game, a 101-91 loss on Feb. 8, 2009, the rookie Hickson looked clueless and finished scoreless in a totally ineffective 10 minutes.

"I think it was lack of effort on my part," Hickson said. "I really tuned in and told myself I was going to box out if I didn't do anything else. I think that's what hurt me last year and hurt us as a team when they came in and beat us."

Hickson did a lot more than box out. The Cavs' young forward finished with 11 points and a career-high 14 rebounds to record his first double double as the Cavs beat the Lakers, 93-87, on Thursday night at The Q to sweep the season series.

Though Cavs coach Mike Brown likes to keep his young players humble, even he grudgingly praised Hickson Thursday night.

"I don't say this much, but I thought J.J. Hickson was big for us," Brown said with a smile. "It was great to see the young fella come up with the double double tonight, with the 14 rebounds. I thought he was aggressive trying to finish around the basket."

Hickson's teammates were even more effusive.

"J.J. was great," LeBron James said. "One thing he did was use his energy and athleticism. He countered their height with his speed and length. We're a very talented team, and we are very good in the frontcourt when he plays at a high level.

"He's young, so we don't expect that out of him every night, but one thing we can expect is for him to play hard. He was great."

Added Shaquille O'Neal: "J.J. played fabulous. He played his role to a 'T,' They doubled a couple times and when they doubled, he slipped to the basket, went up strong and went up aggressive. He played well."

Hickson took all the compliments in stride. They certainly were a lot easier to hear than the razzing he got at shootaround.

"I think I played a lot of good minutes tonight," he said, "and I'm looking forward to playing a lot more."

He is not a bust, he needs to mature. I don't care if we trade him, but he is surely worth something.

We need good minutes out of him, but he is young and inconsistent like young players are.

Props to JJ for last night's showing.

It was a bit painful watching him try to guard Gasol- but otherwise he played the way I always hoped he could. If he could rebound like this most games I could change my opinion of him to a more positive one. The kicker is I think he should be capable of rebounding in double figures on a nightly basis. It pisses me off that he hasn't. Hopefully he realizes this after last nght's performance.

That team was also 23 and 59 Amare had no rules or restrictions out the court. JJ is 2nd year player playing for a championship caliber team. I have no doubt JJ could average those same numbers on a bum team playing 30 + minutes

No, JJ could not go for 20/9 right now, even on a bad team, how many second year players are putting up those numbers, hell how many 3rd year players are doing it? Amare averaged 24/10 during the second half of his 2nd season, after Marbury was traded he exploded. JJ had an excellent game last night, but be realistic here, Amare was and is a special talent at the 4, putting those kind of expectations on JJ isn't fair to him.

A blast from the past resurfaced today.

“Ex-NBA player J.J. Hickson was arrested and charged with armed robbery in Georgia on Friday, according to inmate records from the Coweta County Sheriff’s Department. Hickson was charged with using a knife in the robbery, and is being held without bond in Coweta County Jail.

According to a Sheriff’s spokesperson, two people were “involved” in the attempted robbery, though only Hickson faces charges. They say he stole $100,000 and other items from a home in Senoia after breaking a 17-year-old’s nose upon his entry to the house through a side door. The teenager is reportedly “expected to be okay” after receiving medical treatment.”

He made over 25 million in his career. This story is crazy to me.

What kind of term is dude looking at

At least he didn't rape 86 year old ladies like Kellen Winslow.
He made over 25 million in his career. This story is crazy to me.

Junior Wheelie made 40 mill and it apparently wasn't enough...burglarizing trailer parks to boot.

This being a $100K violent burglary apparently...JJ will get to resume his career in prison hoops and stay in their league until he's captain of Team Geriatric...

Think this should be moved to around the NBA by the way...he has very little to do with us.
