    Re: steroids and Jim:

There's no evidence he juiced, so I don't place him in guilt by association. At the same time, I'm also not naive to think it's not possible that he did.

Honestly what does it matter if he juiced? A shit ton of players did at that time. I feel like the ones that stood out from the rest in that era deserve to be in it. Every era had its own drug problem. The Hall let's drunks and wife beaters in yet once we get to steroids they draw the line?

Jim Thome was one of my favorite players of all time. I loved that team from 1995-2002. He was my second favorite after noted Venezuelan fashion model Omar Vizquel.

I loved him in MSP too. It is ironic, I only met him when he was a Twin. He was signing autographs at the Mall of America. Signed my Twins throwback jersey. It is my favorite jersey even though it is all polyester and hot as fuck.

    Such a class act.

I see no physical evidence he juiced.

Steroids have a pronounced effect on the body; particularly with cranial physiology. Look at Bonds (or McGuire and Sosa) before and after photos. One easily sees gaps between teeth and a larger and pronounced brow ridge. One also sees a big difference in body-mass.

Thome has no such indicators. He wasn't the biggest dude and his physique didn't change. It was that all or nothing swing.

Certainly one could look at Jim as a minor league player and Jim in his prime and see quite a physical change. Again, not saying be took steroids, but there's as much "evidence" on him as there are others who are questioned.

Kind of sad that we can't just have a thread celebrating one of the greatest players to ever suit up for our team

Miguel Cabrera was a 6'2, 170 pound shortstop.

Guys evolve for other reasons than steroids. I think you're right on here.

Beyond how great of a player Thome was, he remains a better person, regardless of whether or not he left via free agency.

Jim Thome doesn't want Chief Wahoo on his Hall of Fame plaque

First, he made them rip off his jersey when he left here as a FA. Now he is making them rip the logo off his cap, too.

How does this make people feel now about his candidacy, seeing as he is basically shitting on Cleveland fans' cherished memories that centered around the logo?

All those home runs and memories seem worthless now that he doesn’t genuflect before a racist caricature of an Indian.

None of my memories of the 90s Indians centered on the logo. Frankly I don't even like cartoon logos.

Wasn't sure the best place for this, but an interesting stats comparison.

I didn't realize McGriff did so well.

I fully believe McGriff should be in the Hall, and really can't understand why he's not even close, but there's a fairly significant gap between Bagwell and McGriff if you really look at all the numbers.

    Bagwell .297/.408/.540 with a 149 wRC+ and 80.2 fWAR

    McGriff .284/.377/.508 with a 134 wRC+ and 56.9 fWAR

Bagwell played in the pitchers park his entire career, and was a far superior defender and baserunner.
