Jimmy Butler Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah, well, most other teams aren't that fuckin' stupid.

Old gourimoko; just another day at the office when a star player becomes available. If gutting our team for LaMarcus Aldridge, Dwyane Wade and Carmelo Anthony wasn't enough, you want us to trade our top-10 pick for a guy who'd get us to 6, maybe 7 in the 1st round before skipping town.

I'd love to see your cap-clearing proposals if Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, and Dr. J collectively announced they were all getting back into the ring.

(I'm prepared for and even giddy for the level of multi-quoting that comes next.)

Miami has Jimmy Butler playing preseason game if they made Josh Richardson or Bam Adebayo available and they haven't. Neither of those guys are close to the prospect Collin Sexton is and so far it seems like Thibs is trying to sabotage any real efforts to trade Butler anyway. Butler is a true impact player in this league but he seems to lacks the interpersonal skills to be a leader because he's had issues in Chicago and Minnesota went up in flames in less than a year.

I'd rather have Richardson tbh...

But the Cavs aren't gonna make Sexton available because Butler isn't gonna stay here. I don't know why everyone works themselves into a frenzy every time a star player is on the block.

Rather have Richardson over whom?

Which makes no sense. That's my point.

Why would you trade for Butler, who wants to be in NY or LA, without a long term contract? Next July you end up with a second round exit and your dick in your hand.

I think @gourimoko is assuming an extension is in place. I feel like people are in disagreement while operating on different premises.

Precisely...

@Simon has posted about this already, but the news reports suggest Butler, if traded, would look to sign a max contract extension with his team. Since he's not a 10-year vet, and is not eligible for a super-max deal, and since he can likely speak to the team trading for him beforehand; there is minimal upside to him becoming a free agent.

His agent putting out that he'd look to sign an extension should alleviate much of the risk associated with trading for him.

The price is dropping. Financially and as far as value in expirings with decent talent coming back we can be a last resort for the wolves if they do move him.

PG. C.SEXTON/J.CLARKSON
SG. J.BUTLER/D.NUWABA/B.COLSTON
SF. C.OSMAN/R.HOOD/K.KORVER
PF. K.LOVE/L.NANCE JR./B.PRESTON
C. G.DIENG /T.THOMPSON/C.FRYE

WHEN we need a big shot or for game winning situations, we have Kev Jimmy, young bull and the vets who can all shoot threes. My clutch offensive lineup would be

PG. SEXTON
SG. BUTLER
SF. KORVER
PF. LOVE
C. FRYE

Ok, how drunk are you?

I like Butler's game, and like most am weary of his long-term playability/durability after playing for Thibs so many years (history doesn't look positive for previous players playing that extensively for him). Even with that, yes, I would love to have him if he would commit long term.

.... but he's not going to do that. Ever. He's made it clear where he wants to go so we don't need to give up any assets whatsoever to acquire him.
