Joe "Captain America" Harris

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why would anyone be upset enough about Joe Harris getting an opportunity and holding his own to make snarky comments about it? I don't get why Cavs fans eat their young. Doing it currently with Felder. I hope Harris does great and becomes an useful rotation player, would be nice to see a Cavs draft pick pan out.

I'm happy for him taking advantage of an opportunity. Wasn't sure he had NBA athleticism but he seems like a good, hard working kid.

It's a weird phenomenon for sure. I think it's just typical fandom....we get excited about shiny new toys. Once we take them out of the box, their often faulty.

The main problem with being a contender is that we will never be drafting high so we have to hit on the "weirder" prospects....not an easy task. It doesn't help when we don't give our young guys consistent minutes, game-to-game.

Doing it currently with Felder.

Pointing out his shortcomings is hardly "eating their young". Back in the 2015 Finals people thought Joe Harris should have gotten more time due to injuries. Arguing he wasn't ready didn't mean he wasn't a player with potential, it was a statement about where he was in his development at the time. I'm glad he is realizing his potential this year, but it is happening in the right situation for him: Big minutes on a team with no pretenses for contending.

Back in the 2016 NBA Finals when the Cavs were down 3-1, numerous posters were clamoring for Jordan McCrae to get minutes in the rotation. Would it have been "eating our young" to suggest he isn't ready to be in the rotation of a Finals series over other players? No, it's simply stating reality of his progress thus far.

So, let's keep conversation about rookies in the proper perspective without hyperbole. It's okay to look at areas for improvement in young players.

Well, the flip side of that is the vocal minority that wanted to hand the reigns of the team to Dion and trade Kyrie, or the other vocal minority that wanted to trade Love for spare parts.

People were clamoring for Harris and McRae in those instances? Who are those heathens? We shall smite them immediately!

I guess I don't understand how that is a flip side since both supported staying the course during a rough patch.

At some point a few years ago I made my peace with people just being flat out wrong. As long as the logic behind a position is there and it's not being spammed on every other thread, go ahead and be wrong.

In this case, I'm seeing the best franchises don't force rookies into bad positions when they aren't ready. For example, Dejounte Murray was taken at the end of the first round by the Spurs, and has played almost exclusively in the D League this year. I think that was supposed to be the plan with Felder this year.

I think you're going to have people, on any team message board, that aren't happy no matter what. We still see it with a few posters now, and this is a team coming off an NBA title, back to back finals appearances, and has the best player in the world/record in the East.

And for the record, I agree with your position on Felder.

Joey come back, any kind of fool could see
There was something in everything about you
Joey come back, you can blame it all on me
I was wrong, and I just can't live without you

I definitely remember clamoring for Harris in 2015 after watching Miller and Marion attempt to play basketball. Was hoping he'd hit some threes a la 2007 Daniel Gibson.

Just proves how truly awful Lue and rest of the coaching staff is at developing players.

Reread the thread. He had a season ending injury in his foot and the Cavs were trying to make a trade at the deadline. If the team cut him outright, luxury tax would have made it an expensive move. I see all the time big dreams of developing young talent... but you can't give playing time to develop a guy taking up a roster spot on IR. Shame on the NBA not allowing teams to fill spots when someone is injured.

This was a financial decision about an injured player. I am happy for Joe, he found a role eventually.

Harris got some burn in that Chicago series, didn't he?
