Josh Gordon discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Well it's easy to say don't break the rules but the rules literally changed while he was suspended that would have prevented his suspension so that kind of sucks. Also the part about going above and beyond to be compliant is why I brought up issues outside of football. There are current NFL players who deal with depression. I know one of them personally. It's not as cut and dry for every player. Some guys just deal with things and can't get a handle on it as good or as fast as other players can. It doesn't mean they aren't trying to though.
Whether these players are trying or not, clearly enough is not being done.

That's a shame. However, the NFL does not have to allow anyone to participate if they are a rule breaker. No matter the extra circumstances, if he keeps violating the rules, he will never be an NFL player again. That's the bottom line.

But they changed the rules that would have prevented half of this while at the same time enforcing old ones on him. That part can't be ignored.

You can't ignore the fact that at the time of him committing the offense, the rule was "indefinite suspension" for a violation. And he still did it.

So saying you can't hold him accountable for that failure is off base. He did it, and he did it knowing the big bad rule. You can't argue that the penalty becoming less stringent while suspending him would have somehow prevented him from said failure. If anything, it only would've caused the penalty to be taken less seriously.

Look, you can be a fan of Josh Gordon the person if you want to be. I'm telling you, if he doesn't get it together, there will be no such thing as Josh Gordon the player ever again.

No I am not Josh Gordon. I have met him and chilled with him and his brother before though. He also has a really nice family. The perception that people have of him based on some pretty ridiculous and inconsistent NFL rules are crazy to me. Just like that post that @Lee made earlier his suspensions have been inconsistent by the NFL. I will admit that he has delt with issues outside of football that most people have no idea about but he's being "painted" as some wreckless weed head and I just think that's slanted. I'm just surprised to see so many people side with the NFL establishment and not more with the players on these issues. The NFL hasn't handled themselves well at all especially the last 10 years but they continue to get the benefit of doubt over the players majority of the time.

Gordon recent shade at the Browns with the questionable timing of the most recent rehab has caused most Browns fans that were on his side to give up on him.

I know he suffers from depression, that has come out, further the NFL is a disgrace on these things, but Gordon absolutely committed the cardinal sin throwing shade at a fan base and that was just uncalled for.

But I hate Goodell. The whole Brady thing was ridiculous. I had to root for Brady and I hate him. But, Goodell had zero evidence against Brady and stills suspended him. Heck 3 of the 4 balls Indy had tested under inflated too, they just ran out of time to test all of Indy's balls.

Just ridiculous all the way around.

Umm having him try again in five months backs that up. I don't get why this is so confusing. A player is in the drug program. The NFL knows at any point they can test him to see if he's clean. Why would the NFL test Josh Gordon, see that he fails the test, and then say well sorry Josh even though you've been suspended for the last season and a half and you just failed another test we want you to try again in five months. He would be done if he failed a test during this current suspension so the fact that they are telling him to try again in the fall tells you that they are just punishing him to make a statement. Not because he failed anther test.

Josh Gordon isn't in the league, nor the drug program. He's banished from the league; the league would only test him upon application for reinstatement.

I don't care how nice Josh's family is, nor how cool he was to anyone when sharing a blunt. Guy can't simply follow a rule and he has full knowledge about said rule. He also blames everyone other than himself, especially Cleveland, for his stupidity and is holding it against innocent bystanders. The NFL rules might not be very reasonable, but they're written plain as day and Josh has/had full access to them with counsel from an agency to fully comprehend them.

I thank Josh Gordon for one thing.. Introducing me to those glass joint tips he and his brother were busted with during a traffic stop in Cleveland. Oh, they were carrying about an ounce at the time. Of course, it's just that silly brother of his! :chuckle:

Used to root for the guy to make a comeback.

Then I started following him on Snapchat and other social media.

Turns out that he seems to be a real piece of shit. Don't mind the weed, but I mind pieces of shit.

Hope he never makes it back.

Absolutely love how is Browns fans can be so picky with talented players. Especially one that they could really, really use.

I'm a big fan of Flash, and I believe it's utter bullshit that he's suspended and denied reinstatement while other players can get DUIs, can beat women, among other things like taking PEDs. That's just a slap on the wrist compared to smoking a bowl. Yikes.

But, Gordon knows the rules. Stupid or not, if he wants to continue to be apart of this league, he has to follow them regardless of what we or anyone else thinks of the matter.

And did I miss something? Why would he play elsewhere? Browns own his rights. He's still under contract, unless that changed and I'm unaware of it?

I think if he stays clean, keeps his head up and continues to be on a good path, the commissioner will reinstate him come fall and football team.

Could he potentially play in preseason games for the Browns, just like last season? That would help him out, as well.

Really hope he returns and gets his last chance here. The Browns definitely need him, and he needs the Browns. They can help each other.

Others saying that they hope he never plays again, you're kidding yourself if you believe deep down you don't want this guy catching passes from either Cody Kessler or Kizer. Because if he does play, the overall quarterback play gets a bump - along with the entire offense.

I'm completely honest when I say I'd rather him never play again. Those Snapchat videos where he publicly deemed the Browns and the Browns' gear garbage were the last straw for me.

Obviously anyone who shows my teams disrespect is going on my shit list to begin with...but look deeper at that situation and tell me what kind of person is such a moron that they'd to post that in a public forum.

Josh Gordon is a dumpster fire.

You're not listening to folks then. It's a stupid rule. The weed rule in the NFL should go. It's an awful rule.

With that said, he knows it, and breaks it, willingly, and at great cost to himself, the team, and the fans.

I'll sandwich that tidbit w/ further declarations that the rule is stupid, worthless, and should be repealed.

I don't like the NFL's rules, I don't side w/ the NFL, I'd side w/ the players on the case of taking MJ testing off the table for the NFL.

Fair? K. JG is still in the wrong though.

To be fair, that's a misdemeanor, no?

I think Gordon is an idiot but this is pretty absurd to me.

A league that lets domestic abuser get drafted and remain in the league won't let a guy play football who is smoking herb? Goodell is a god damn idiot and his comments about weed over draft weekend just reinforce that.

Again, I'm not explicitly defending any of Gordon's past actions but this guy has been suspended for what now? Two years for smoking weed? In a league where PED users get what? 2-4 games?

So long as it is Federally forbidden nothing will change.

Especially with Trump's fascist little elf Jeff "Good people don't smoke weed" Sessions as AG.

Maybe he raped a squirrel.

So are you saying he nutted in a squirrel?

Dude these are all just assumptions you're making. They could be right but he could have failed another drug test. There's no clear limit to how many you can fail when on indefinite suspension

But if he did fail another one he would be permanently banned not invited to try again on five months. It's simple. Another failed test would've closed the door on Josh Gordon for good. The door is still open thus he couldn't have failed a test.
