Josh Gordon discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Cool. Sorry this news is bad news to you.

Josh Gordon is still clean and unsuspended. His treatment program has been successful in keeping him clean so far. This is good news to a lot of us.

Really excited for the rest of this good news, bad news, medium news, no news discussion of semantics.

I don't understand while people are taking this as bad news.

The actual NFL sent a statement saying Gordon did not fail a drug test. This is unheard of for them to do, so it was important to note this is not a drug issue.

He had a drug issue because of the depression and anxiety. These issues don't get fixed overnight so the fact its ongoing treatment is not a surprise. If Gordon had a torn quad muscle and was rehabbing in Florida, no one would think anything of it.

Finally, clearly this is the Brown's idea as they did not punish him and keep an extra year of control. If you want good news, that is the good news, I don't think anything is at risk and I really believe this is about keeping Gordon away from the cameras of Hard Knocks.

Getting away from his past transgressions, you’d have to think missing camp when we have some new skill position faces AND a new OC is a bad thing.

He needs however long he needs, but I sure am hoping it’s soon because all of these practices add up to a team being on the same page, and we aren’t getting that.

In shape is not the same as practicing to get better. Don’t get me wrong, he can take as long as he wants and not practice, but it certainly would help our team for him to get a couple of weeks in, in preparation for game 1.

He has my support, but I certainly hope he is back in the next 10 days.

It is bad news because it means he is mentally not in a place where he can play football alongside his teammates.

Uh...okay.

So if we get a report that Jarvis Landry tore a quad and was rehabbing in Florida, we'd all be here celebrating the "good news?"

I'm not sure why people feel compelled to spin this as good news. Since you chose to compare it to a physical injury, let's do that analogy, because I understand the whole "don't stigmatize mental illness" approach.

Let's say Gordon had torn a quad last season, but we were all told that he was going to be healthy for training camp. And he shows up for all the minicamps, looks great, etc.. Quad seems fine. Then, right before training camp begins, it changes. We're now told that the quad isn't coming along the way they hoped, that he is going to be excused from the entirety of training camp, miss the first preseason game, and that we didn't know exactly when he'd been back.

Would anyone in their right mind call that "good news?"

Personally, I think he's just avoiding Hard Knocks. And if that's the case, I don't really see it as some huge issue. If he doesn't want to discuss his issues on a nationally televised show, I can understand that and I applaud the organization for allowing him to step away from the team temporarily to avoid having the spotlight put on him.

So with Gordon having the past history he has, anytime the reason he is away from the team is NOT a failed drug test its good news.

As for using the example of a quad injury, I am saying we look at mental illness differently than physical illness and we really shouldn't. He just needs some more strengthening, but they keep saying he will join the team soon.

I think we just need to be patient with Gordon right now, I wish he was getting reps with Tyrod for obvious reasons, but better he is doing what the team wants and doesn't have nay suspensions coming, so that part is good news yes.

This is pretty much the same thing I've been thinking. In our history with Gordon the "normal" news had been for him to have flunked another drug test. Now it appears that they have figured out some things about Gordon's anxiety issues and Gordon and his care providers seem to be working on the same page as the Browns and the league office.
Bad news would be the status quo where nobody is communicating, and the same old shit just kept happening again, and in that case Gordon would be out of the league (which is what lots of people expected).
It just seems like the league and the Browns are actually listening to Gordon's therapist, which is quite a departure from how they handled these situations in the past.

There's actually a pretty decent chance that Gordon will play because everyone is learning from past mistakes. How is that not good news?

If this were anything other than football we wouldn’t care about this.

Josh Gordon is freakish.

Do what you want and show up on week one. Fans will get over it.

A little over simplified, but not too much over simplified, lol

But yeah, do what you need to stay on field and show up week one and all will be forgiven.

I mean, I'd prefer if he was at camp and played in the preseason, but if he's there week one it won't matter all that much.

I’ll be interested to see if any details eventually come out.

In an ideal world, Josh would have voluntarily done this...not because he started using again but because the temptation to use was getting impossible to ignore.

The above would exhibit a ton of growth, on a personal level.....vs. him starting to use again and people around him being like “shit, you better go to rehab again”.

Im less concerned he’s missing time, as he’s proven he can just roll out of bed and be good. He needs to get himself right, in a way that gives him a chance to succeed, long term, in his life and career.

Ding ding. Came back after two years and looked solid as fuck. I imagine coming back after a month, with intense training during the time, will be okay.

*Scrambles to find b00bie posts from 2012 stating Gordon isn't a number 1 receiver...*

Can someone connect the dots for me? I fail to see what they're insinuating here..

"Josh Gordon’s absence from the Cleveland Browns may have nothing to do with his battles with substance abuse or addiction", and it's actually because he got his child support ruling?

Why would he leave the Browns and $1,900 per week after learning he owes $6k+ per month in child support? I'm not following the logic here.
