JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I really just don't understand why one of the great all time gunners of the NBA is now petrified to shoot a three.

It's literally unbelievable. The dude got the ball with noone within 8 feet of him at the top of the key...in his favorite spot...about 7-8 times. Did he shoot the 3? No

He either
1: Waited for the closeout, dribble drive in...floater or a pass.
2: Dribble inside, spin dribble...crossover...18 foot pullup.
3: immediately swings the ball to a covered Crowder/Love

Dude's head is just not right. Don't know how you fix a shooter who is afraid to shoot.

Miracle performance from him tonight. About as good as you could hope for right now...

He could of been so much worse...

He basically isn't the same player anymore. Same thing happened to Shump. Lue let them stray from their role which should be 3 and D. Shump was playing backup PG for us and JR felt he had to make up for a lack of a backup PG at the beginning of the season.

Not signing Delly was probably the worse decision for this team. Not only did we lose Delly, we lost JR and Shump in the process.

But Shump was never a shooter. JR has always been a 3 point gunner. He is terrified to shoot the basketball right now and I don't know why.

I would seriously rather see him go 0-6 from 3 for the next 10 games instead of 0-1...0-0...

He has to lose playing time until he can start walking on the court and shooting bombs again. Flat out.

Benching him would be a fantastic start.

Literally drill into his head that he’s not getting minutes until he at least takes those shots.

Shump was never the gunslinger that JR was and needs to be. Shump though had stretches of really good shooting, he wouldn't hesitate to shot it until he started handling the ball. That's when his bad habits of passing up open 3s for long 2s and slashing to the rim for contested shots started.

The root of the problem is the expectation that they need to create for themselves or others. If Lue was a good coach he would have told them that they are more valuable sticking to their roles and let team passing help create shots.

In game 7 of the finals...we were down 8 to start the 3rd quarter....

JR literally rained down 3 absolute daggers. Two bombs from long range and a nice turn around 18 footer with a hand in his grill. Relishing the challenge of the hand being in his face....the harder the shot, the better the look it was for JR. The game was tied within minutes and the Cavs went on to win the NBA title. The game was totally on the verge of getting out of hand and slipping through our fingers...but JR is a shooter....shooters shoot. I will ALWAYS love him for that.

Even last year against GS he had 25 in the elimination game. He didn't want us to lose. Kept hitting 30 foot bombs leaning to the left...poking his head to the side of his defenders body to see the ball go through the hoop...even after a tough regular season...he had no hesitation. He was there when we needed him despite not many other guys being able to say that.

But this year...it's like that guy I just described never existed or was a totally different player and I've mistaken their identities.

Do you think the coaching staff have asked him to expand his game and try to initiate the offense and all?

For a brief moment in training camp...maybe...

but Lue has been publicly talking about JR's need to shoot open fucking shots for awhile now. JR is just in a shell. He's not himself. Something is wrong in his head. Has nothing to do with his body or athleticism.

JR is a great shooter and eventually he will break his slump and start living up to his former JR Swish name. His defense is a different issue.

Maybe he's just old and not good anymore? It's not like he's just suddenly fallen off. He sucked ass last year too. Some may have been personal issues with his daughter and the "hand injury" but honestly I think he is just done as an effective starter.

Something that really depresses me about jr is that every once in a while he’ll go up in traffic and pull down an incredible rebound in traffic. Why can’t he do that more often? He clearly has the ability. If you can’t shoot or defend at least do something. So much wasted talent.
