K Love for Marc Gasol

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
so where exactly would you be generating extra shot attempts for Kevin Love?

A combination of Kyrie, LeBron, and JR's.

Kyrie and LeBron because they'd be setting plays for Kevin. JR's because he'd be a true fourth option.

Given Love's health issues and his lack of effectiveness offensively after quarter one, I'm not sure it makes any sense to do that. David Blatt IMO was on the verge of being fired. He is trying to win a championship. The expectations for this team are extemely high, much higher IMO than they should be, given the fact that the team is essentially newly assembled and the lack of playoff experience. The idea of feeding a #3 guy just because he needs to feel appreciated or needs to feel better about himself, I just don't know. My feeling is that if Kevin hits his shots, especially shots outside of the first quarter, Kyrie and LeBron will gain trust in his ability to finish games. This will imo lead to more passes to him and it will also lead to Blatt leaving him in games longer and in the 4th quarter of games. If he continues to look gimpy, slow, and morose, and ineffective in quarters 2-4 he will be lucky to keep getting the shot volume he's already getting.

Some of this also is on Love to be more aggressive with his shot. If he's got a pretty good look at he's feeling confident, shoot the damn basketball. If he sees a chance to put the ball on the floor and blow by a defender, go for it and finish strong at the rim. If he runs hard on the fast breaks, he will also generate more touches from that. Don't you think Kyrie or JR or LeBron would go out of their way to reward him for running the fast break? In short, he needs to play good basketball and IMO the extra shot attempts youre speaking of would come naturally as a result of that.

Why does setting Kevin up for higher percentage shots rather than shooting silly contested jumpers have to be about anyone's feelings?

They are only high percentage shots if he makes them. Look at Love's percentages in quarters 2 , 3, and 4 and tell me if those percentages warrant being fed more? Love is not being underutilized or persecuted, he's being used as much as is reasonable given his execution.

Hopefully next year, if he stays, he will be 100% and he will perhaps benefit from a training camp where they can work on their offensive chemistry. But for the playoffs it's now or never. Love will keep getting his 13 shots a game I'm sure so long as he keeps shooting roughly 43% or better. Maybe he heats up in the playoffs and starts shooting a lot more. Maybe his back becomes a non-issue. If so, i will be the first one standing and cheering.

And by the way, I also think trading K Love and Mozgov for Gasol is a bad move. :)

They are high percentage shots because he has made them throughout his career and averaged 26 PPG while doing it. He got them mostly off pick-and-pops, which requires the ball-handler to set up. Our guards don't do that.

Instead of popping with Kevin, our guards like to jack up low percentage shots or set up a screen with Kevin popping/rolling and then cut the play off to shoot contested jumpers.

Not disagreeing with you, just pointing out that I'm not a fan of this line of reasoning that we continue to use on this forum.

We keep referring to last season with respect to Kevin Love's performance; even though, this season is practically over.

In the first half of the season it made some logical even mathematical sense to combine last season with this one as a positive prior history, indicating what should be happening.

However, that case doesn't make as much sense now.

Yes, there is likely an injury, but if it's been persistent for an entire NBA season then that might require surgery, and who knows how that might affect Kevin next year.

I've written too much simply to say that this current season should carry much more weight than last season.

Yes things can change, and yes, Kevin Love's next season will likely demonstrate some regression towards the mean.

But we shouldn't discount how he has performed this season, surrounded with these core players, under this coach; all things that are not likely to change. You can include his back and general health condition with that as well if you're so inclined.

I'm sure he'll do better; but it remains to be seen what exactly we can really get out of him on a consistent basis.

And btw..

I wouldn't do the trade.

This thread is in the wrong section. Please move it to where it belongs.

I'd love Gasol, but I wouldn't trade Love for him.

Besides, Gasol will be on the decline soon, as he is 30-years-old.

He's a great defensive player, but eh.

Hmm, mods are slacking.

By the way, this idea sucks. For numerous reasons.

I like Gasol. really i do. And he would help our defense.

But honestly i think the Team as a whole benefits more from the Love+Mozgov combo.

Combined they are much more valuable than Gasol alone.
