Kawhi ?

Toronto got absolutely murdered in this trade. I think Masai panicked big time on this one.

Not only is Kawhi an expiring, he's a huge question mark. Danny Green is also a one year rental, but he's pretty good, and they have his bird rights.

The thing that caught my eye is that not only did the Raptors give up on DeRozan, but they also included a first round draft pick.

Jakob Poetl is a solid prospect as well.

Toronto had reached their ceiling. They moved DeRozan, a late first, and an OK prospect for an MVP-level player and a super switchy wing.

About the only way they could be "murdered" in this deal is if Kawhi isn't healthy. But if Kawhi is healthy, it's a bank robbery for the Raptors.

I don't understand. So many people that want to meme Toronto for choking in the postseason now want to magically pretend they give a shit about treating Derozan "fairly".

Toronto's goal is to win the eastern conference. This was their only legitimate shot to increase their odds of attaining their goal. Can it backfire? Absolutely. Even still, it's clear what the former core was capable of, and it wasn't capable of winning the eastern conference. They made changes because they aren't content with being a perennial playoff disappointment. I applaud making a move to acquire a top 5 player in the league (if he's good to go).

Ditto - infact i wish the Cavs did a straight swap of the #8 and 2019 pick for Kawhi. if that happens, LeBron opts in and Kawhi + LeBron + Love = another championship run potentially. And if things swing our way - maybe LeBron and Kawhi would sign a extension here. The 'what if' scenarios are very exciting to think about.

I highly doubt the Spurs would have taken that deal given what they got instead, but I was also pulling for Kawhi to end up here.
