Kawhi ?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
so spurs eat 40 million in salary for hill for the next 2 years for a mediocre and cedi.

how about we try and get durant for tt?

The best part is how the Celtics have to give up Tatum AND Brown in this hypothetical. Meanwhile all the other teams just trade their garbage. That indy proposal is down right laughable

Would there be any way to get in on any Rozier trade action? Assuming the Cs don't move on from Kyrie.

After the Irving fleecing that Boston gave us, there is no way you should trade with them under any circumstances. Also, why would they let Rozier go?

Hill's contract is only guaranteed for $1 million for the 19/20 season, so you're only eating his $19 mil next year, plus the $1 mil guarantee. He's essentially an expiring contract next trade deadline, though his guarantee date is July 1st I believe, so you can still use his $18 mil contract value to match salary and use as salary relief value around the trades at the 2019 draft as well.

Im curious if he would renegotiate. That is a hard contract to cobtinue to pay, but i would love to keep hill

Don't know the context of you guys' conversation here but FWIW, Hill is only guaranteed for $20M over the remaining portion of his contract, not $40M.

If you send him out with cash considerations, his guaranteed amount is offset down to $14.4M; so a 50% buyout would cost a team only $7.2M; however, that team could free up $23.75M in cap space that same year.

That's the value of Hill's contract -- it'll be the largest (AFAIK) non-guaranteed deal in 2019-20 ($17M non-guaranteed salary).

It's cool, but what do we do at pg? Having an actual defender at PG is so nice. We haven't had it since Snow. If we can get an above average pg who can play at least a little D I would love that. Who does that though? Jrue Holliday? Jesus

Jrue Holliday ... yeah, lol ... great player, but that contract, my Lord...

But there are worse options..

My preference would be Kemba Walker, but .. if we trade for Kawhi, I'm not sure it's possible we'd have enough left over to get him, not unless Jordan decides to salary dump Walker before he leaves in free agency. I have to think Kemba is gone after next season, so .. I've gotta think Jordan trades him to the highest bidder ... but if we could trade Nance+Cedi+Love for Kawhi and take Pau Gasol back as a bad contract; leaving us with the BKN pick to trade for Kemba, I think that'd make a great deal of sense ...

Kemba/Korver/Kawhi/James/Thompson is a solid 5-man rotation; one that I think could compete with any team in the league.

I just don't know if Love+Cedi+Nance+salary relief+cash is enough for Kawhi... I kinda doubt it is...

I wouldn't mind that at all. I am just rather skeptical we can get him. I don't think he would want to be here for one thing.

Kemba is cool. I am not that high on him.

I do think if the pick is not top 3, its value may be higher at the deadline if we pick right. Cedi and Zizic next year I think will definitely be more valuable at the deadline. Hill's Contract is way more valuable at the deadline.

I don't see the summer as a time we can maximize the value of our assets unless we get a top 3 pick or Cedi has some eye-popping games in the next 2 series. LOL if he were able to guard Durant, that would make him very valuable, but then how could we trade a Durant Stopper?

Maybe 8 would be enough for Kemba now, but if we really want to swing for the fences like you suggest, I don't know if we have enough in the summer.

From my perspective... I expect the Cavs to get swept by the Warriors; and embarrassingly so -- we might win 1, but .. unless the Rockets beat the Warriors, I think the series is a foregone conclusion.

At that point, I expect LeBron to use his free agency to put the Cavs to the point of making a decision. Either commit wholly to contention, or he's gone.

If we try to hedge, again, and we argue that the deadline is when we'll make our move; I'd expect LeBron to leave. Hell, I would think that'd be best for him and for basketball.

So while I agree with you that our assets will assuredly be worth more at the deadline, one could argue that the pick was worth more than it ever will be at the past deadline, and we didn't trade it then -- so waiting a year and a half post-Kyrie trade to use the assets we got to get back to contention, all while LeBron ages out of his prime, is not exactly an equitable proposition for James.

Yeah as always, we have to pay the highest price and minimize our assets to coincide with Lebron's timeline. Completely a crapshoot in terms of who comes on to the trading block.

I am sanguine about the whole thing. I don't think adding Kawhi makes the Cavs favorites, nothing does. That team keeps working their habits, while the Cavs try to get their shit together starting in round one of the playoffs. In terms of Talent, only adding 2 major stars might give the cavs the edge.

I think it is more likely to catch them off guard, steal a game and have Curry go down. The most likely thing, could be draft a star in this draft and in 3 years, that star is great, Lebron is magically productive, and Curry's game falls off a cliff due to age. I actually think that might be the most probably way for Lebron to win another ring. Wait until Durant and Curry are old lol.

A highly favorable (and unlikely) summer would be adding George (opt-in) for Cedi+Nance+Hill; and trading the pick+salary for Kemba+Howard+MKG+Williams in a trade with the Hornets, and keeping Love at the same time.

Kemba/George/James/Love/Howard

We'd likely still have Calderon, Korver, Hood (??), Green, MKG, Williams and Zizic.

There's so many unlikely things that would need to happen for this to work, but .. yeah, to me, this is one of the most favorable yet still remotely possible outcomes for the Cavs outside of getting Kawhi for peanuts.

Suffice to say, I think the Cavs should target Kemba and George this off-season, and I would not mind taking back Dwight Howard. If we can get both of those guys while keeping Love, then I think that puts us back into contention.
