Love was great tonight. My only gripe is that I wish he would stop with the pump fake three and throw himself into the other guy. Would rather he not take those physical shots form other guys, especially with his injury history. Seems rather dangerous to throw your arms into guys like that.

It's a bit worrisome at times considering his injury history but that perimeter pump fake is a big part of his game, which leads to it's effectiveness in drawing fouls. K-Love is one of the NBA's best at drawing contact based on mimicking his typical movements on court. He's just a heady guy that way.

Loved his physicality last night as well. Even though he still seems a bit underweight compared to the start of the season, he was able to get some baskets fighting through contact and his rebounding was nooiice.

I would rather him pump fake and lean in expecting contact than actually jump and be in the air when he gets hit. I don't want him playing worried about injuries. He has to play your game. As @Kbiz8288 said that is a huge part of his game and one reason his true shooting percentage is so great.

I would think if he is expecting contact then he should be fine. But I'm not a Ddr.

You shouldnt worry kev don't jump :)

Good to see him get our defensive backboard sorted and the caves busted out a nice old twolves side line triangle set with him kyrie and Lebron

In two games back averaging 15.5 points/12 boards in just 23 minutes of play.

Back to his early season form and looking great for the playoffs. Maybe that 4-5 weeks off will function for him like Lebron's Miami break did in 2015 and help him power up for the rest of the season and the playoffs.

Perhaps, the back has been rested and the spasms have been alleviated while he was away from the court for the knee? Blessing in disguise.

That Lakers commentator "that's exactly how Love hurt his shoulder before"

Um...Saw no armbar on the replay

Yeah I had that same reaction. Love hurt his shoulder originally because Olynyk literally ripped it out of it's socket while they were fighting for a rebound. Horrible, horrible take.

Fun fact....

The Cavs are a better team defensively when Love is on the floor.

And quite considerably.. we where around 15th before he went out. Fell to around 30th without him..

Its because

a) he has evolved into a pretty good Post Defender. He will never be a Rim Protector but while on the ground he is really good at making life hard for Opposing Bigs. He is strong, has quick feet and is smart in drawing offensive fouls

b) Defensive Rebounding is THE most underrated aspect of defending. What use is it if you play even elite Perimeter defense when you cant secure the Rebound?
TT is an elite offensive Rebounder but is pretty bad at defensive Rebounding.. and even with Lebrons uptick in rebounding we still where missing around 7-8 Defensive Rebounds every game. Thats 7 or 8 Possessions more for the opponent.. Its clear why it was hard winning that way..

I don't think people truly understand how big of a factor defensive rebounding is, and its effect on overall defense in general.
Yep

As i said above.. You can play the perfect defensive Possession. Close out on shooters... cut of the drive and contest a tough desperation Jumper to beat the shot clock.

All that is totally irrelevant if you cant get the Rebound.
And it gets even worse.. The Opponents likleyhood to score of an offensive rebound is pretty high as we know very well when TT, Love or Lebron are feasting on the offensive boards..
The Defense is usually out of position and maybe even 1 or more Players have already started to run back.. so either you get an easy layup or an open three.

I can't wait for the return of the Love-Frye lineup. Say, with Korver, JR and Bron? Remember the early season, when once every game a confused defender would for a split second forget who's in the corner, take a half step toward the ballhandler, then realize in sheer panic and get his feet tangled desperately trying to cover. Oh yeah.
