I hope this isn’t true.

If it is LeBron is almost certainly gone. Beyond that, it would be a good indication that CLE is effectively conceding his departure and screwing up a post LeBron rebuild simultaneously. Hard to believe it’s true but this front office...

The only logic I see with keeping love during a rebuild is to inflate his stats to increase his trade value, and then trade him midseason.

Have to believe this is just the Cavs playing hardball, to try and keep Love while trading the pick and potentially adding another star... If the Cavs say that Love is off the table, then it changes the nature of negotiations with other teams.

If he had 2 odd years left in his contract sure. But he will most likely opt out next summer.

So, a value for half-a-season Love won't really be a lot.

This kind of make sense though. With what the trade market is currently, Kawhi is really the only forward available. Trade Love for a guard and we become a much smaller team with no option but to play LeBron at PF.

Trade the #8 pick for the guard and wait for a forward or wing to come available to trade Love for. It doesn't say the Cavs have Love off the table for trades, they just aren't actively shopping him. They probably have floated him to trade to the Spurs for Kwahi but that isn't actively shopping him.

Not actively shopping means nothing.

If i were altman i could ring every gm in the league and say "look we are not ACTIVELY shopping love,he is an integral part of our team and highly valued member of the team that brought us our first chip, buuuut if someonw were to enquire about LOVE or anyplayer for a package with our 1st pick, we would obviously do our due dilligence to explore all options as to what is best for our organization "

The Cavs have 2 plans that will be executed in July. When the LeBron stuff is settled, Love will be departing in either plan.

I’d just keep this in mind about LeBron and CLE.

If he knew (and I have no reason to believe he does) he wanted to stay in CLE, it’d make us much stronger at the negotiating table during trade talks for teams to be unsure of his decision. Assuming Koby and Dan knew he was coming back, but they kept it in the back pocket, it helps them at the table tremendously.

Because if teams know LeBron is here long-term, it turns them off (like Kevin Prichard/Pacers) and it forces the Cavs into a more desperate position knowing they need to supplement LeBron.

Just something to consider....

I think it’s been offered. As a Cavs fan I’d love to see that offer accepted.

But it doesn’t make sense for SA. Why? Love does nothing for them long-term and the #8 pick isn’t enough for a top 5 NBA player.

We’d need to add a lot more to the offer (Cedi, 2021 1st, Nance?). I’m not implying all KD that but we’d need to sweeten the deal.....

If Doncic is there at #4, and we could potentially trade Hill+8 for Parsons+4; then you've got Doncic+Love+Cedi for Kawhi Leonard.

That's a damn good offer... and beats Jaylen Brown plus salary, or Markelle Fultz + 10th pick. It also beats Lonzo, Ingram and Kuzma IMHO.

The Celtics and Sixers could top it, but, they'd be taking a huge risk. Cavs would be blowing their load, but .. we might be able to get another star like Kemba by just taking back insane amounts of salary.

Spurs would have time to flip Love by the deadline or re-sign him in the offseason.

I think they'd have to take that offer...

And we'd be idiots to do it.

Seriously, in what universe does 1 year of a petulant Leonard have more value than Love, Cedi and Doncic on a rookie contract???

Just an awful, awful deal for the Cavs, but it'd be well-deserving of our reputation.
