I hope the Cavs “keep Love whether LeBron stays or leaves” is just posturing for your franchise’s sake. Peronally I believe trading Love is the right move regardless of what LeBron does. If LeBron stays, Love just isn’t the right number two option to compete against GSW. In fact I’m not convinced he’s a legitimate number two option on a championship contender at all. And he’s one of the Cavs’ few desirable assets to use to improve the team via trade. If LeBron leaves, trading Love for young players and/or picks is a no-brainer as it would help tanking and accelerate the rebuild. If Dan Gilbert genuinely believes in building around Kevin Love if LeBron leaves, then he is a bigger idiot than I thought.
If he was ever going to be a number 2 championship option this is the absolute wrong era. He may have cut it even just 5 years ago right before small ball phased out the slow footed PF

McMenamin: we are not shopping Love/not interested in trading him, no plans to trade anybody, don't think we can get Kawhi

The Cavaliers are not actively shopping All-Star forward Kevin Love heading into Thursday's NBA draft, multiple sources told ESPN on Wednesday. Furthermore, regardless of what decision LeBron James makes about his future in Cleveland, the Cavs have interest in keeping Love next season, sources said....

Cleveland, owner of the No. 8 pick in the draft, will make the selection without knowing James' intention for next season, multiple sources told ESPN. James is currently on vacation with his family, sources said. He has to inform the Cavs by June 29 whether he intends to opt out of the final year of his contract.

The Cavs are entering into the draft with the intention of making a selection that they will keep on their team next season. There is interest in finding a young playmaker to add to their veteran core, and Cleveland believes it will have the opportunity to choose from an available player pool that will include Collin Sexton, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Trae Young, Michael Porter Jr., Kevin Knox, Mikal Bridges and others.

Cleveland has inquired about the availability of San Antonio Spursforward Kawhi Leonard, but the franchise does not believe it has the realistic assets to convince the Spurs to deal them the former NBA Finals MVP, considering what other teams on the market can offer.
For what it's worth I think this attitude is a mistake

That's really too bad. Love has really been a disappointment here.

I think it would be best for both the Cavs AND Love, for him to have a chance of scenery.

Generally when you hear the phrase:"We aren't looking to trade X-player"..what happens? They get traded.

No real reason for them to tank Love's value by saying they want to get rid of him. Plus, he's still a good player, and if Sexton pans out, he might be able to shift back to his role as the third option, a role he's much better suited for on a contending team.

Love would still be a fantastic 3rd/4th option, but the problem is that he might be the necessary part of a trade package for a better 2nd option.

Hopefully one or two of our rookies/second year players pans out for us.

If LeBron leaves the best thing to do with Love is to really bump up his trade value, let him play for half a season being the first option and force feeding him the ball, hopefully he can average 25-12 and a have solid percentage from 3PT range

Than you trade him for high draft picks or a really good young player, I prefer a really good young player with upside over a draft pick because of our history of drafting poorly and making some terrible decisions in that department.

I think that could also be a mistake if Love balls out and our pick lands outside the top 10. If Lebron leaves we need a top pick next season to add to Sexton, Cedi, Hood, Nance and Zizic.

If Lebron is gone this team needs to be gutted.

Build around Sexton, cedi Zizic nance and call it a day.

We have to bottom out next season or were screwed!!!

I would add Hood as well.
We have parts like JR, Korver, Hill to move

Hill and Korver are vets, I would keep them up to the trade deadline when I think they will have max value

Love I would trade whenever the opportunity comes up....to Portland for someone like McCollum would be ideal

TT, I dont know, all your going to get is a bad contract bad....he might be closer to the deadline as well

We can't afford to take that risk. Love gets hurt too often. He has to be traded before the season starts.

That's a valid point. Love has always been an injury risk and I feel like his back & knees could go at any time. Trading him this summer would be the most prudent thing to do, provided the Cavs can get a decent offer, which remains to be seen.

Also, let's not forget that Atlanta owns the Cavs 1st round pick next year, which is top 10 protected. So, if we're gonna be bad, we want to be bottom 10 bad, not a fringe playoff team.

That would be a bad idea. Love gets injured. His value is what it is. We trade him immediately this offseason if LBJ leaves.

It really depends what you can get for him, doesn't it? If the offers are underwhelming, why not keep him, make him the centerpiece of your team offensively, and see if his value increases?

If LBJ goes to laland, trade Love with him. We need all the assests we need for the rebuild. Absorbing deng's contract + Ingram + future firsts would be the minimum for love and lbj..
