I don't understand how anyone could imagine that you could trade Kevin Love for Nurkic, even straight up, let alone with Leonard too. Love is on the wrong side of 30, injury prone, is a below average defender, has been somewhat inconsistent even on offense, and is on a huge contract. He doesn't have big value in the contemporary NBA. You need just the right match for a trade.

He isn’t worth Kevin love. My in laws live in Portland, and I told my brother in law about the posts yesterday of “collins, a bad contract, and a first” for Love. He laughed and ask where he can sign up and that it was ridiculous to ask for so little in return.

Collins is literally in a fight for 3rd/4th best big on the blazers. To consider him the key piece in a love trade is assinine

Mike Conley just got traded for Grayson Allen, Jae Crwoder, Kyle Kover, and the 23rd pick in his draft. Compare that trade package to Zach Collins, Myers Leonard, Mo Harkless, and a future 1st round pick. I think the POR package is better. Collins>Grayson Allen. Leonard>Crowder. Harkless>Korver.

Conley is a better player than Love, guys.

It's true that his contract is a little worse and he is older and at least as injury prone though, so not such a bad comp in those ways. But I certainly wouldn't expect to get more for Love than Conley.

I dunno. I think you trade Love before he begins making trade demands. I dont thibk hes gonna troop it out forever on a shitty team when hes over 30. We'll see.

Or he'll just get injured before Christmas and kill his value at the deadline.

I wish we drafted a stretch 4 or had one on the roster. I think it's alot easier to trade Love if we just had someone that could soak up the minutes at PF that could still keeps the spacing needed to develop the young guys.

I’m not even sure how you came to this conclusion. Love is a top 5 pf/c in the league. There’s not many guys that put up his numbers on offense and it’s difficult to find a better rebounder.

Conley is top 10-15 at his position. Guards are more important at this time in the NBA, but his contract is also terrible. At least loves pay goes down every year from now on.

In no way, shape or form is Kevin Love a top 5 PF/C in the NBA at this point and time.

Also Love’s contract doesn’t decline every year. It actually only declines in the 4th year after increasing in year 2 and remaining flat in year 3.

Given the projected cap increases, a flat salary is a de facto decrease....relatively speaking.

Hey Los, since its clear you know nothing about pretty much anyone on the blazers let me enlighten you.

Leonard last year averaged 6 pts and 4 board a game with a career VORP in 7 seasons of 0.9

Crowder last year averaged 12 points and 5 board a game and in 7 seasons has a career VORP of 8.8

Mean while Leonard is scheduled to make 11+ million next year, and Crowder 7+ million. Leonard is a waste of 11 million dollars a year. He woudl be included in this trade as a bad contract. Yeah maybe he can do something on this talent less Cavs team, but to view him as anything more than a bad contract is ridiculous, and 100% isnt better than Crowder.

As for the Harkless Korver comparison. While its valid to say Harkless is better than Korver, its over looks several things. Korver was included in that trade a postive value contract as his contract was only partially guaranteed, and Korver is 37 or 38 years old. Harkless better be better than him.
All of that said Harkless is over paid as he only contributed 7 points, and 4.5 rebounds as a starter earning 11 million dollars a year. However he does a career VORP of 6.2 in 7 seasons. Which isnt anythign to write home about hardly makes him a "horrible contract".

So to summerize a trade of Collins, Harkless, Leonard, and a 1st rounder is absolutely 100% worse than what what Conley just got traded for, and no its not close. Both Korver and Crowder at least provided value. Leonard is absolutely fucking worthless, and Harkless while not worthless is in no way shape or for worth 11 million a year.

edit: and as I pointed out yesterday the blazers would then have Love, Dame, and CJ as a core for at least the next 2 years. Meaning that a first round pick from them over the next two years is at at best in the 20+ range. Meaning any first round pick of value wont come due till 2022.

No need for the personal attack.

Leonard sucks. He's fine as a big to soak up minutes during the regular season, but he is way overpaid, and is a net negative. Crowder is better.

Honestly, though, I think the trade debate is not about the ancillary pieces. The debate is:

Memphis gets: relief of Conley contract, two firsts, and Grayson Allen
Cleveland gets: relief of Love's contract, one first, and Zach Collins

I probably agree with you that Memphis gets the better deal. Both contracts are bad, and while Collins is a bit better than Allen, getting the second first makes Memphis's return better.

With that said, Conley provides more value to Utah than Love does for Portland. Would I be in love with the return? No, and I probably would be inclined just to keep Love. But I think it is probably closer to what actually is being offered than a lot of us would like to believe.
