Koby Altman

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Name one.

Knicks back in the day during the 90's came up with no O'Briens
Clippers with Paul, Griffin and others never made it out of the west.
The Thunder never made it back to the Finals, lost KD, Harden.

Maybe not on his talent level per say, but there's been a history of great teams that have in fact screwed the pooch.

We've been in striking distance of getting a title for 3 straight years. We got 1 out of those three. That's....not horrible all things considered.

David Griffin on ESPIN today. Said he didn't do a good job at cultivating an environment for Kyrie when Lebron was out of games.

No shit. Yet Dan Gilbert gets all the blame for the front office.

Griffin still falling on the sword for Lue?

Right? It seems like that the motivating is the coaches job. Its the GMs job to address that weakness on the roster (which is something that griff never did address, unfortunately)

Griff was just being a gentleman.

Say what you want about Griffin, man is classy as fuck.

He wasn't going to wash the dirty linen on public.

Yeah, instead he complains to other GMs in private about Dan Gilbert while he was still employed with the team. Real classy guy, that.

Eh?

This is news to me. When did this happen?

Um, is this speculation or do you have sauces?

Griff on 710AM in LA

- When asked about what went on in June to result in him walking away, he stuck with the "mutually agreed it wasn't a fit anymore" story but hinted at "all situations having private things that never get out and he'd like to keep it that way"

- On does Kyrie get traded: "very real chance when a player of this caliber is on the market you're going to get offers that compel you to make the move" Basically spoke like he was still GM on this one, in the sense that he didn't give credence to any idea of devalued market because of the trade request being public.

-sidesteps any talk of issues between Kyrie and LeBron on a personal level and doubles down on it's about Kyrie looking to take the next step in his career as a franchise leader himself vs. any personal beef(of course their may be beef now post Griff's exit as a result of the trade request and the fallout from that)

-doesn't give any real insight on if LeBron is staying or leaving next year

-gives Bron a ton of credit for not making demands, not playing GM, and just wanting to lead his troops. Calls him best basketball mind on any level he's ever been around. Went out of his way to combat that perception that LeBron throws his weight around as a GM type. Came off as more of a defense or LeBron than trying to get credit for his own work.

-when prompted about small markets and the DPVE, says market doesn't matter, but rather do you build great relationships and environment that are strong enough to make guys want to stick around? Mentions how Team USA has had a big impact on players getting close and putting their own teams together(specifically referencing GS

-host asks what team is best suited to currently beat GS. Griff says that nothing lasts forever and that if you only try to beat GS, by the time you assemble that team you might be chasing someone else. Says long, versatile athletic wings and good shooting team absolutely helps though. His main point is you have to build a team that can sustainably win playing almost every style of opponent possible. Hints at thinking Cavs were/are nearing end of that window(which I'd interpret as a commentary about lack of assets left to replenish the well on athletic wings - didn't sound like anything that had to do with Kyrie or LeBrons future)

Secondhand. It’s not speculation, and the only reason I’m even allowed to say that is because Griff doesn’t work for the team anymore and it doesn’t matter.

Are you able go more into detail, here or over PM?

Totally agree..this is kinda a issue..GM doesn't get involved with who plays and how they play.
His job is to get the players that fit the needs of the team.

Thats squarely on the coach. Lue has to get the players to step up when Lebron is out.
Other teams who have superstars play good ball when their main player is sitting out for a few minutes , why don't the Cavs?
Even if you have to get different personnel around Irving when Lebron sits, that still falls on Lue and his rotations.
Cavs have way too much talent for them to underachieve like they do.

It is embarrassing how few minutes, Irving got love and Thompson with LeBron off the court.

Even if you don't want to bring LeBron out first because he isn't remotely tired due to his extraordinary condition. You could cycle out the rest of your starters and Leave Lebron with his custom made bench crew then bring in the starters san LeBron. RJ wasn't suited for Irving in that he is old an wants toplay a half court game.. plug in in Derrick Williams here instead of Deron Williams.

once your non LeBron lineup got its 5-6 minute burn .you could pretty much go with whatever lineup you wanted to.

Did we bring back derrick Williams?? I feel like as of now, the answer is no. I would like to see him back though anf actually play minutes like he was at one point.
