Several respectable writers and analysts have written/discussed that they think Gordon Hayward is actually the best player on the Celtics. Obviously Kyrie will be the first option on offense, but there's a legitimate question as to whether he is a better overall player than Hayward. I can see arguments for both sides but feel that ultimately Hayward is better right now (the guy really has no holes in his game) but Kyrie on his best day is better than Hayward. Moreover, Kyrie has a higher ceiling. I'm curious what you guys think.

At the very least, Irving and Hayward will be enough of 1a and 1b that KI will have similar gripes that what he's had before, unfounded or not.

Kyrie was on the team and there are an awful lot of highlights of him connected to our championship. Can still enjoy those know what douche he was?

I agree completely - it's possible to acknowledge that he had a tremendous 2016 postseason, as well as other highlights, and that he is still the 2nd best Cav of all time IMHO, and also acknowledge that he had shortcomings on and off the court then, as he does now.

I'm of the opinion that a lot of how we judge Kyrie's ability to adapt and evolve his game will be the quality of season that Hayward has. Hayward reminds me a lot of Minnesota Love - the offense was designed to run through him, he got the ball in spots he liked often, etc.

For Hayward to be at his best, Kyrie will have to learn how to set him up to be effective. He's never shown a consistent ability to do that with teammates before, so that's what I will be watching.

If Kyrie wants to, he has the skills to make Boston a much better team and make a name for himself as a top 10 player in the league. All he has to do is give honest effort on defense and be willing to run offense and look for the best shot in a possession, whether that is from him or someone else. He has never done those things before, but it is a completely mental issue, so he might very well decide to do it now. In fact, now that he is no longer here, I pretty much expect him to. If he doesn't, if Boston gets Cleveland Kyrie, they aren't better than they were last year.

Pretty sure if Iyrie gave effort on defense his efficiency would probably take a hit and he'd probably have a season ending injury before playoffs.

Sadly, I think people are underrating Kyrie. He's a great offensive player, has the size and athleticism to be a good defensive player, has a good coach and organization around him, and will be highly motivated.

We made a verrrry risky trade. I think Boston is a real threat now, particularly if IT doesn't manage to make it through the playoffs in peak form.

I really don't think Kyrie will ever be very good at defense.

He just doesn't have the stamina and/or desire it seems.

How long will the honeymoon last?

So Kyrie came out today and finally admitted the flat earth thing was a ruse. However, one of the quotes stuck out at me, "It became like, because I think different, does that knock my intellectual capacity or the fact that I can think different things than you?"

Pardon my french, but that's fucking idiotic. Here's where his point (whatever point he was trying to make) fails: saying the Earth is flat is not "thinking different things." It's literally denying objective facts. If you deny objective facts, then yes, people will, and should, knock your intellectual capacity. If he had said, "Heaven is real" or "pineapples on pizza are good," and he created the same fervor, then his point would have been made. Those are subjective ideas that can't be proven one way or the other. Saying the Earth is flat, however, is objectively false.

It's the kind of bullshit you would hear someone say after getting high (we've all been there). Kyrie tried to pass off his "high thoughts" as some kind of profound statement on our society, which was stupid as shit.

That look on Gordon's face says it all. He probably already hates Kyrie and is just wishing he could have got traded to the Cavs too.

Saw a tweet last night (may have been fake) about Kyrie's thoughts on DWade coming to CLE. Was something along the lines of LBJ would say things like "Wade used to do this - so do it that way Kyrie." (paraphrasing). He made a back handed compliment that now LBJ can be happy or something....can't believe its not here yet.

One of you Twitter wizards find it for me. Think it was from a Boston reporter....

It’s fake.

Looking forward to all the excuse making for him when Boston doesn't crack 50 wins this year and all the numbers show them not skipping a beat when Kyrie is off the floor. The only way Kyrie becomes this franchise changing demigod of a player that so many in the media talk him up as being, is if he starts A) making players around him better, and B) giving a shit defensively. A requires him to fundamentally change his approach to the game of basketball, and B would lead to either his offensive efficiency tanking, or him physically breaking down.

If he sucks they'll find a way to blame it on LeBron.

It's obviously very early, and a lot remains to be seen, but at least to this point... I'm getting a lot of Dantley for Aguirre vibes.
