irving in the fourth quarter

Am I the only Cavalier fan that is getting sick and tired of Irving playing one on five every fourth quarter of every game?

Re: irving in the fourth quarter

This definitely needed its own thread.

what are you talking about?

he played 9:49 in the 4th, took 5 shots, made 4 of them and only shot once in the last two minutes. He scored 11 points, the team only managed 15 (on 2-12 shooting), he assisted on two of those points. We also had 5 turnovers in the 4th quarter, none of them were Kyrie. Perhaps if he took a couple more shots instead of a just 5 we win the game.

While I can agree in the 4th quarter and overtime, Kyrie had times where he didn't play up to his ability. There were more times I was wondering why Kyrie wasn't the one initiating or looking for his shot. Every other player on the floor was very tenative. Varejao didn't have his jumpshot and Dion was cold. This isn't a good game to point to and say he tried to do to much and lost the CAVS the game. I would actually argue he didn't take over soon enough. I would also argue that he needed to become more of a jump shoter late rather than slash to the hole. The whistles were very quiet late and his size doesn't allow him to finish thru taller defenders that are given the ability to body check him in the lane.

I find this a tough one.
On the one hand we would have been beaten in regular time without Kyrie, particularly his clutch 3 to tie the game.
On the other hand, Kyrie again did some frustrating brainless hero plays in OT. He probably should have got a couple of fouls called which made it appear worse than it was.
It just seems the Cavs can't get the ball to a player in the right position to make shots in these periods. This is not all Irving's fault, but he has to cop his fair share of the blame.
Just so frustrating !!!

I swear these kids are clueless lol They will Bash Kyrie about imaginary things. The Kyrie we know and love is back and I am happy.

I know, right? In the fourth quarter this month, Kyrie's averaging 29.4 points per 36 on 46/41/92 splits. How could anyone be okay with that? Truly sickening!

Unfortunately he's clearly stunting Dion's 4th quarter play as well, as Dion is averaging a pitiful 22.1 points per 36 on 48/56/75 splits. Ugh!!!

Finally, and most importantly, the Cavs as a team have suffered in the 4th quarter as a result of Kyrie's selfish play. This month they're outscoring their opponents at a miserable rate of 11.4 points per 48 minutes in the fourth quarter, a number that would rank just above the lowly Indiana Pacers if they kept it up all game. How could anyone not be sick and tired of watching our team get torn apart like that???

Maybe we should play our fourth quarter lineups to start the game?

Dion is shooting 56% from three in the fourth quarter? Jesus.

NBA always makes these videos of Kyrie vs "Insert Good Point Guard Here" duel and Kyrie loses in all of them.

We will never see the best of Irving until the front office provides him with at least one big who can consistently hit the 15+ foot jump shot.

During the Warriors post game show last night, Draymond Green said that down the stretch of regulation and into overtime, the Warriors defensive scheme was to force Irving to drive the ball because the Warriors could live with the option of having Varejao or Thompson taking the jumper instead of KI. He said the Warrior bigs covering Andy and TT could collapse off those two and shut down KI in the paint.

It really doesn't matter whether or not we get frustrated with Irvings' 'hero' ball or the inept outside shooting of the other players, either action still usually leads to the loss.

Kyrie's last 10 game numbers

28.50 points on .491/.438/.940 shooting, 6.8 assists, 1.5 steals, PER 28.9

Sam Mitchell, on the XM basketball channel, says that part of KIs/Cavs problems are that KI came into the organization when there were virtually no scorers/talent on the roster. So KI started out his NBA career feeling the need to do everything and have little trust in his teammates. Mitchell points out that getting out of such a mindset isn't easy.

Mitchell also mentions that the point guard position has evolved into being more a scorer than a facilitator, though he did mention that in the Atlanta game, from the 5 minute left in regulation through the OTs, KI passed the ball a grand total of twice.

Mitchell added that clubhouse issues often arise due to a lack of leadership shown from the front office and the setting of the culture.

That just proves Mitchell can't count. You didn't even have to watch the game to know he passed more than twice because he had 3 assists in overtime.
