Name checks out....

Jokes aside, Kyrie has done a good job scoring from everywhere except the 3 point line. He hasn't been as efficient as normal, but the 3 point stroke has a lot to do with that.

He doesn't appear to be very in tune with the flow of the offense. A lot of his points are coming off of very difficult isolation shots, and he's not making the easy pass as often as earlier in the season. His defense hasn't been good per se, but the effort and intensity is much higher than the regular season.

He's also hustling his ass off.

His jumpshot suggests some soreness in his knee. Watch the way he favors the leg when lifting.

He needs to continue to make plays for teammates without turning the ball over and he needs to continue to work defensively. We also need to see consistent effort more than we are.

Probably because Love's play has been relatively consistent with what we saw in last year's playoffs and Kyrie has played much worse than in last year's playoffs. I actually think Love has outplayed Kyrie so far. But we all expect Kyrie to be the second best player on the Cavs. I don't think it's making excuses for Kyrie as much as trying to figure out why he hasn't been.

Nothing we don't know or haven't seen with our own eyes. Hopefully the rest does him some good with whatever he's nursing.

Just to be clear.. TPA is just a linear mathematical transformation of BPA broken down into DBPM and OBPM. It's not a new metric and doesn't really contain new information or insight.

Irving's OBPM/DBPM this series = -3.4 / -2.9 (-6.3); which is a full -11.1 BPM swing from last years playoffs.

He put up .419/.219/.889 on .457 eFG%/.500 TS%, 16% AST%.. He's also only taking 13% of his shots to the rim, which is around half of the attempts over the past two playoffs.

Irving needs to be benched until healthy and others need to step-up.

It seems like people on here are trying to make an excuse as to why Kyrie has played slightly poorly these past two games. There has been absolutely no reports of him being injured, so why are people using this and running away with it?

He could be fatigued, but to just jump to an injury concern is absurd.
Kyrie himself talked about having chronic knee pain he's been dealing with all season long so it's wrong to say there have been NO reports. When Kyrie took some time off towards the end of the RS that was the reason why.

It's pretty obvious he doesn't have his normal lift and it is affecting his offense. I do think a week off is just what the doctor ordered for both Kyrie and Kevin Love and I'll be expecting them both to be back to full strength and ability for the next series. I think the rest will help guys like TT, JR, and a few others as well.

Sweeps are the shit.

Moreover, statistically (since that seems to be popular); Kyrie's recent play has extremely deviated from the very recent norm -- so it absolutely is appropriate to wonder if there is an injury that isn't being broadcast that he's just trying to play through.

Given that Kyrie himself, as well as RJ have stated Irving is dealing with being "banged up" and having issues of chronic pain in his repaired knee; I'm not sure why we would choose to ignore that fact?

We all knew when Kyrie went to the Olympics right after the grueling playoff run that he's have to pay the piper and I think that's where we're at right now, especially with this being less than 2 years after significant knee surgery.

The good news is Kyrie is young and he'll bounce back with a week's rest. Hopefully that's enough rest to get him and the rest of the walking wounded through to the end of the finals. With this caliber of athlete, and the best available medical and rehab treatment on the planet, I'm pretty confident the team will be looking pretty solid for the next series if not a little rusty.

I agree with this... One of two things is happening: Kyrie all of the sudden is a worse playoff performer than Lowry (on-par with DeRozan) because the advanced stat drop-off from the regular season is startlingly bad.

Second, and more than likely, Kyrie is injured.

Now, I hate when people use that as an excuse (see national media with Steph Curry last year). It's not an excuse. Outside of game 2, Kyrie performed anywhere from average (game 4) to awful (game 3). Kyrie has not played well and he deserves criticism.

We need to be looking for a solution, because his play has been unacceptably bad. Either he is trying to do to much and forgot how to play team ball - in which case Lue needs to be all on his ass - or he is injured. If the latter is true he should not be playing until healthy or when we need a 50% (whatever it is) healthy Kyrie.

If Ky is indeed injured his minutes should take a nosedive in round 2. We happen to have a stud back up pg that is just hitting his stride at the right time. Limit ky in round 2, if not make him the backup.
