Larry Bird steps down

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The debilitating injuries to Kerr had me remembering what a great coach Bird had been in Indianapolis, before his back forced him to step down. Sad to see the legends leave, hope he has a role somehow.

One of my all-time favorite players, ever. Sad he's stepping away. I wonder if it's health related. He had to take time away before.

When they peaked, the Pacers were damn good and built that team in an unconventional way without top lottery picks or huge FA signings.

Hibbert(when he was good), David West, George Hill, George, Stephenson.

Just the unfortunate outcome of being in LeBron's world.

After they peaked though, I'm not sure if Bird or the front office did any moves to better the team. He passed on not resigning Lance then continued to pass up picking him back up for years through trade or free agency.

George Hill never seem like a fit and they waited years to move him. They moved from Hilbert in a salary dump but didn't seem to use that money to any benefit to improving the roster.

Paul George breaks his leg yet they fight to try to make the playoffs, end up with the 11th pick in the draft. Could have tanked for one year to possibly get a running mate for Paul George instead they end up with a role player in Myles Turner.

At the end of the day someone else other than Bird needed to try to have the offseason to convince Paul George to stay and how they are going to possibly set up to rebuild if PG leaves.

Turner is probably better than a role player when he peaks. That being said they blew the perfect excuse to shed some salary and go for a number one pick. They missed out on Towns, Okafor, or PorzinGod
