Larry Sanders Show anyone?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Three possibilities:

1.) If the market is really dry, we might get him on a two year deal now (unlikely).

2.) I don't think he will command more than the MLE next season from any team (even if he looks great here, there's a lot of risk for a long term deal). We can give him that.

3.) If he plays well here this year, and we lose him, who cares? We still win overall.

No, they can't give him the MLE, they're over the apron next year if they keep everyone. They won't be able to give an exception without being hard capped.

I'm hearing some rumblings about the Haywood contract. Don't know if I'd use it here without knowing the whole story with Sanders. However, I'm positive that the Bucks would jump at the offer within a millisecond.
Rumblings are wrong my friend. We would have to trade a lot more than Brendan Haywood for that trade to be legal. If it was After July 1st maybe. Then again no way the Cavs commit long term money when Sanders is already on his way out.

It doesn't say anything about those being related. I could see why other teams would be interested in Haywood's contract and I could also see why the Cavs would be keeping an eye out on the Sanders situation.

Right. However, the gentleman I am quoting referenced the Bucks:

That sounded like he was implying that we could trade Haywood for Sanders.

Just checked out his Twitter and imo, he needs a Ricky Williams style drug-free break/retreat to sort things out.

Shame, because I am really a big fan of his game.

Yeah, this doesn't sound like a "weed addiction," this sounds like dude is a coke fiend or worse.

If he's got a serious drug problem, then I want no part of the guy. Best of luck to him, but we don't need that kinda shit in the locker room.

no thanks....

Sanders is a guy who winning could absolutely change. This is our rodman to the Bulls. I'd ask him, "will you come here, block shots and rebound? Do you want to compete for a title?" One complaint and you're gone. Block shots, rebound and thrive off the open looks Lebron, kyrie and love get you."

One, huge, glaring difference. Dennis Rodman had years and years and years of highly productive basketball prior to joining the Bulls. He was the defensive player of the year in Detroit..twice. He had two straight seasons of 18 RPG in Detroit. He was a monster in San Antonio. By the time the Bulls took him on, the only risk was whether or not he would wreck the locker room.

With Larry Sanders, there's the added bonus risk that he just may not be that good. If this was a guy who had put together a string of highly productive seasons like Rodman, sure thing. Bring him in. BUt he's had exactly one season in 5 that can be classified as above average. That's not worth the risk imo.

Risk of what? Him fucking up and us cutting bait? Not much of a risk.

If you have been following Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, you'll have a better idea why Sanders should be avoided even as a minimum contract signing. Here's a representative Kyler tweet from earlier today:

I would be stunned if anyone tried to sign Larry Sanders if he is bought out/released - he has a lot to sort out

Kyler directly contradicted the report that came out a few weeks ago that Sanders didn't want to play basketball anymore. Apparently it was a matter of him not being in a position to play at the moment due to his issues. Kyler's been circumspect about what exactly these issues are (such as what types of drugs are involved).

The damage a guy like this can cause to team chemistry isn't always immediately remedied by cutting him. Getting the old chemistry back can take time, he may have won some other players in the locker room to his side, and hell, he may have managed to take a few guys down with him as well.

Well, if that's how they feel, all right...but they need to find another big. TT, Love, and Mozgov is not going to be enough.

Sanders has tremendous upside, but he seems more determined to change the league's marijuana policy than win a championship. When he tries, he's a difference maker; he could easily start over Timo. But he's never given consistent effort, so I'll understand if the Cavs pass - even if he goes on to have a great career elsewhere.

Sanders is like Master Blaster. You better hope when out of the ship you have a better chance of taming him.
