Larry Sanders Show anyone?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

While people in this thread are NOT overselling the off the court issues Sanders has had, a lot of people are underselling what Larry could give to this team IF he gets his head on straight and plays up to his potential.

Before the off the court issues, he was who I was hoping we'd target with the Haywood contract. Now? We might be able to try him on for pennies on the dollar.

I think you gotta talk to Larry Drew and Jim Boylan about what they think, and you gotta talk to Lebron to see if he will take it on himself to protect chemistry. If you get their sign off? Pull the trigger. If not, walk away.

If this pans out, we could have an athletic 7ft shot blocking center on the court at all times......and that would be HUGE for our playoff chances. Gives our defense protection from injury to Mozgov/early foul trouble in a playoff game.

Gotta at least kick the tires.

Maybe he wants to play on a team where his role is different.

Sanders has tremendous upside, but he seems more determined to change the league's marijuana policy than win a championship. When he tries, he's a difference maker; he could easily start over Timo. But he's never given consistent effort, so I'll understand if the Cavs pass - even if he goes on to have a great career elsewhere.

The 'could start over Timo' part of things does not make the locker room issues any easier -- it could make them worse

This guy is puzzling. He would provide immediate help defensively but he seems like a major head case. Would he accept coming off the bench? Can LBJ work his voodoo magic on him?

It seems like a very high-risk signing, albeit at a very low-risk price. With chemistry being an issue early in the season, coupled with the fact that we still haven't worked Love in where he can perform to the best of his ability (could be due to injury, we don't know yet), i just am not sure if it is worth it. We would have to do a lot of due diligence before he could even be considered a viable option. Unfortunately, there are no other centers available with this sort of upside.

That is a pretty clear sign he isn't going to be playing any more bball (maybe not his choice).

In general, Sanders has the Bucks for whatever he wants, since the contract is guaranteed.

Only way you walk away from that much money (and your agent ever lets you do it), is if you think the Bucks have a pretty strong case to suspend you without pay for a long time..... The Bucks probably would pay $13M to not deal with the headache of doing that, even if they think they would win.

I think the only reason you give up that much money is BECAUSE you want to play again but just want to find a better situation.

My guess is that he will try to sign for a contender for the rest of the year (hopefully us), show he can be a good citizen, then recoup that money on the market next year.

My only disappointment with that scenario would be that we couldn't sign him in the future, but if we got a title this year then I would be fine with it.

Wow, his agent should be fired.

Unles he killed someone and buried the body in the arena, it is almost impossible for a team to go to an arbitrator and get a contract overturned. He would have to be doing stuff so above and beyond smoking weed that I can't imagine buyout discussions would be an option. If the Bucks felt like they could void his deal, there's no way they'd be paying out anything.

He left an insane amount of money on the table, which likely hints at one of the extremes. He's either off the rails and doesn't give a shit about anything or was willing to walk away from his current deal in time to latch on to one of the remaining open rosters spots on a contender.

Even if it is the latter, I would really need to be talked in to it.

Don't underestimate Jason Kidd's seething hatred.

Sanders is not right. He is leaving 25 mill on the table for what?? The cavs should stay away from this nut case there is something really going on with him mentally.

If he was caught using harder drugs and it was not disclosed, including cocaine or amphetamines, then his contract could be voided in accordance with the CBA.

I think that's what happened, btw. The amount of money left on the table, the "problems" that are unmentionable, the extended rehab; I'd probably say he was caught with cocaine in his system.

16. Larry Sanders is not an option. He has stuff going on for himself that I'm not comfortable talking about.

17. Sanders left $20 million on the table, because he needed out of the NBA for now.

I have been one of the more vocal anti-Sanders posters on this board since the possibility was first brought up that he could be a trade or waiver wire target. Someone with that amount of baggage is overwhelmingly likely to be detrimental in the locker room.

No, I don't care that people were saying the same things about JR Smith before he came here. He had his own issues as well, but they pale in comparison to some of the stuff that Sanders has allegedly been involved in - stuff so bad that journalists don't even want to do what's in their job description and report on it. (Not hating on Windy there, either - I think it's admirable and the right thing to do to keep that stuff under wraps if it's not out in public. It's nobody's business.)

I will say that if he is ever able to get his head on straight and cleanse his personal demons then I don't think I would have a problem with the Cavs taking a chance on him. But from the sounds of it, he is a long time from getting back on the court, if he ever does.

As a human, I wish him nothing but the best. I fear that we've only seen the tip of the iceberg in regards to his personal issues, but hopefully he is able to get his head on straight and return to the court to salvage his career.
