Couldn't we eat alot of that salary in the deal?
I’n actually not sure how all the money would work in an in season deal like that but it would be more about the cap money. SF like us has a lot of cap space. But if they dealt for TTs salary and it all counted on their cap, by reducing their cap room during this season, it would also reduce the amount they get to rollover to create their unique adjusted cap number next offseason, even though he’s a FA and his actual salary won’t be on their books NEXT year.

Yeah I've never gotten into how salary vs cap works for the NFL since it rarely comes into play. I knew it rolled over. From the quick research I just did, it seems like we can eat his roster bonus and they might be on the hook for a pro-rated amount of his salary on their cap. If we did the trade this week the 49ers would probably take a ~8 million dollar cap hit.

With how much of the season is left, it might be worth it to them.

What are the chances that the Browns get a compensatory pick if Tyrod leaves as a free agent?

The Browns would have to lose more high level free agents than sign high level free agents in order to receive compensation. Compensation picks are for bad, rebuilding teams. Hopefully, that is no longer the strategy.

Unless you're the greatest franchise of them all, New England, who also lets high priced free agents go and feasts on compensatory picks.

Of course, I agree with you. We are in talent acquisition mode. We don't have the luxury of being New England.....

......yet.

On a side note. Baker Mayfield Credited Drew Stanton as his mentor and goto guy for advice when asked about guys in the locker room. in a post game interview

“I think people took Tyrod for granted,” Mayfield said on Wednesday. “I think he’s an extremely good leader. I think his work ethic alone, just his routine and being the same guy every single day for every single person in the building, it’s a tremendous way of showing his leadership.”

Following his year with the Browns, Taylor signed with the Chargers in 2019 to back up Philip Rivers. He was initially the starting quarterback for Los Angeles in 2020 before a Chargers doctor punctured his lung prior to a matchup against the Chiefs.

That Chargers doctor must've known Herbert was the real deal.

Happy for him, hope he got all his good plays out of the way before he comes to town this weekend.

Fucking Texans though, everyone knows that the formula is to draft a QB in the 1st round BEFORE naming Tyrod the opening day starter. Oh wait, they traded away all their picks huh? Fucking Texans...

Hard to do that when you don't have a first round pick.

Wait Tyrod is still in the NFL?
