Let's talk defense!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Its frustrating to watch the team now... we supposedly have a defensive headcoach and a defense guru assistant in Longabardi... but when you watch the game everybody seems to be clueless... maybe the defensive scheme just doesn't fit the players on hand, they try to have complicated switching and everyone just gets lost...

I don't believe they could just switch it on in the playoffs, specially that most of the players are not really known for defense... its gonna be a rough playoffs for the Cavs especially if the opponent has a skilled big man...

That's a big "SUPPOSEDLY"... lol

Everytime I see Longabardi on the bench it makes stomach turn, I don't know why... kinda like Mike Brown, maybe he's just one of those who are good in theory but bad on applying things and impresses in interviews but bad on the job...

His defensive scheme requires a once in a generation defensive hub in order to be successful. He had that in KG in Boston...love Tristan, but Tristan is no KG.

I'd rather we go back to our Blatt defense, post Timo and JR acquisition. Stick to shooters, ice PnRs, no doubles in the post...a defense built to protect the 3 point line in the regular season.

How do you know if they can execute it when we haven't seen the guards stay in front of their man all season?

Yeah thats the thing... if the players are not defensively inclined nor physically built for lot of switching in the first place, you try to simplify things... You could see everybody getting lost and blaming each other on the court... hopefully that doesn't affect the team chemistry, you could see a lot of finger pointing and frustrations during games...

Why we should just ice everything, or pack the paint...if we are going to be lazy, we might as well scheme towards being lazy.

Just dare teams to beat us shooting mid-range jumpers.

Rather watch that than watch another drive and kick to a wide open shooter after an improper rotation, or another kick to a wide open shooter after we randomly decide to double the post.

SO SO SO COMPLETELY with you on that

Since you believe in the ol' playoff switcheroo, I'm gonna have to ask you to refrain from all other takes against the defense, until such time you admit it sucks and we're doomed....

(Seriously tho, I agree wholeheartedly with your idea)

What nobody here talks about is how unqualified Tristan Thompson is to be a starting 5 in the NBA. He offers NOTHING in the way of resistance at the rim; it's a constant layup line down the middle for whoever we're playing regardless of quality.

Mozgov was a godsend to this team; we were an elite defensive team with that guy in the middle.

Now I'm not suggesting that we should have matched the Lakers' offer, but we are so structurally flawed and Tristan Thompson is the crucible.

If Sanders gets to even half of what he was he needs to start for this team going forward, no questions.

Just an FYI...

Timo at his best with us...opponents FG% within 6 feet of the basket in 2014-15:

Defended shot attempt %: 51.9%
Overall FG%: 58.8%

Tristan this season:

Defended shot attempt %: 51.7%
Overall FG%: 61.3%

It's probably worth mentioning that during that playoffs of that year Mozgov allowed 41.8% on 59.2% overall FG%

I have been saying this all the time, Tristan is awful and Bogut getting injured really fucked us now we're stuck with a guy that provides nothing except the occasional offensive rebounding, Green at 6'7 is one of the best rim protectors and defenders in the NBA because he has a brain and knows how to contest by going straight up with both hands and hes always in the right position and knows exactly how to cover the backside, unfortunately Tristan has low basketball IQ and has no idea how to do any of that, he just to try's to block every shot with one hand and hes late 95% of the times anyway.

Tristan being the starting center is the main reason our defense is ranked 22nd this year, dude has no idea how to be the anchor of the defense, our offense has gotten better this year but the defense looks worse than that team that went 20-20 when they first joined up, I can't even imagine how many dunks, layups & ft's Durant is going to get when he sees that we have Tristan and Love as our rim protectors lol, shit is going to be brutal we probably gonna have to play LeBron at center and pray he can give us 100% of that end or something

...to add to it, we've HORRIBLY misused Channing Frye by making him TT's backup all year, which is an even worse look for your defense. Dude was brought in to be Love's backup so we can have a stretch 4 on the court at all times.

Our front court consists of 3 power forwards, none of whom can halt penetration or protect the rim.

We just really, really fucked up team construction this year, either through arrogance or stupidity.
