Luka Doncic

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Fair enough, bit of a stretch, but I get your point. I like Doncic, he is like the white Larry Bird.

The white Larry Bird? Is there something about Larry's ancestry.com results that we don't know about?

I think what Lee meant was Larry was a wizard like Gandalf and technically an Istari, which were spirits in human form and not necessarily 'white'.

I've been a bit disappointed in Doncic lately. I think he is chucking too much (21.8 points on 18.9 shots in March). I think Luka should aim for efficiency rather than volume... Having Porzingis next season will help tremendously of course. Hopefully Luka doesn't develop any bad habits until then.

"Inefficient high scorer on a losing team" is the worst possible direction for a promising young player's career to go. I wonder if Luka picked up some of the tanking / loser energy around the Mavs post-trade deadline. They should fix that stat next year.

The one more alarming thing about Luka's shooting is how his FT% has steeply declined.

That is usually a really bad sign for projecting a player in to the future, in terms of rebounding from bad shooting stretches.

November-March.....FT% by month:

.848
.744
.667
.697
.651

And this isn't on a low total volume.....he's shot nearly 500 FT's on the year.

I think a lot of what is ailing him can be put aside but that is the one scary indicator that something is wrong......either mechanically, physically, mentally or some combination of all of the above.

I'm also pissed that Trae Young is now in the conversation for the rookie of the year. Or at least he should be... Partly because Young has gradually improved throughout the season... But also because Doncic got worse.

Don't disagree that he's been worse in some ways recently, but it's crazy how high the bar's gotten for him. Two triple doubles in his last three games and people are non-ironically talking about how his stock's trending down.

I know the Mavs have traded a lot of key guys, but still, what a terrible March... 1 win, 12 losses...

Averaging just 22/9/7 in March on 48.5% true shooting. That's nearly as bad as LeBron's rookie year averages of 21/6/6 on 48.8% true shooting. The struggle is real :chuckle:

Just saying, the media loves winners. Regardless if they carry the team on their own or they have a nice complimentary cast around them.

For sure. It's no surprise he was better liked earlier in the season when he hit game winners seemingly every week. But if he single-handedly carried his team to a .500 record, he'd be the first 19/20 year old rookie to do that in a long time...maybe ever?

Lebron was actually a year younger than Luka in his rookie season (he started at 18 vs 19) and had less high level experience.

LeBron was a physical specimen though. So that helped tremendously. Can't really call Luka physical anything. I think skill-wise Luka has an edge over a 19-year old LeBron. At the very least it's an argument.
