Luka Doncic

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
LeBron was a physical specimen though. So that helped tremendously. Can't really call Luka physical anything. I think skill-wise Luka has an edge over a 19-year old LeBron. At the very least it's an argument.

Lebron started his sophomore year at the same age (19 and a half) as Luka's rookie year, and in his sophomore year he put up 27/7/7 on an effective field goal percentage of 50.4%. And led the league at 42.4 minutes per game. Insane!

In a league with much, much less shooting, better interior D, and with much, much less spacing.

I know the Mavs have traded a lot of key guys, but still, what a terrible March... 1 win, 12 losses...

Not so terrible for a team that knows it isn't going anywhere in the playoffs, is building for next year, and where every extra ping-pong ball has extra importance because of the Top-5 protected trade of their draft pick. And whose coach is almost certain to be back next year, and so cares very much about next year's roster.

Historic numbers. In MVP conversation. As a 20 year old.

He has that Harden old man's game... The craftiness, strong use of angles, great court vision... He has a tremendously high floor. I think it's almost a sure thing he'll be a starter, even on a good playoff team. But his ceiling isn't as high due to limited athleticism and average length. If you gave this kid Billy Preston's body and athletic ability, he'd be a sure fire superstar.

Few more months of MVP level production, then he turns 21, becomes an alcoholic, balloons to 290 pounds, and falls into obscurity by age 25. You heard it here first.

His ceiling is actually higher than LeBron's. I know that sounds crazy to say. But, he's just 20 fucking years old. And I can say in all honesty, he's better than LeBron at age 20.

And he can shoot better. He's the next face of the league. Larry Bird with a better dribble.

It’s just so difficult to compare players today that played in the initial era that LeBron played in and prior..

Look at these scores nightly.... This is like arena league football in comparison to the NFL these days.

All these numbers are inflated beyond measure.

You still argue at a skillset, he's more advanced though. The only clear thing LeBron has is athleticism.

I have no idea if he'll ever become as good, or better than LB. LeBron elevated his game to GOAT status.

But Luka should be up there if he stays healthy. His skillset is more advanced than LB's at the same age though.

Which is fine. Hell I think someone like D-Wade at 23 was more skillful than LeBron at 23 for whatever it’s worth.

I think Doncic is a great player and he’s fun to watch. I just don’t take a lot of what I see in today’s nba serious.

Luka does not have a higher ceilling than 'Bron, and it is not just a matter of physical attributes. Consider the level of basketball Luka has played at for the last, say, 3 years. He came from the second best league in the world into the NBA and looks like maybe the most polished and advanced 20 year old we've ever seen. LeBron came in from High School. Like, it is absolutely a fair assessment that Luka is more advanced as a player in his sophomore season than 'Bron was, but he's also played grown up basketball since he was like 16 years old. That shit fucking matters. The experience gap is enormous.

This isn't to say that Luka isn't an outright genius, of course. The fact that the game comes as easy to him as it does is a testament to that. But I think it's worth noting just how much more legitimate professional basketball experience he has compared to your average rookies and sophomores, especially compared to someone who came straight out of High School.

I agree with you regarding the experience, it absolutely matters. But Luka was able to get that experience BECAUSE he's just that good. Real Madrid isn't giving minutes on the floor to just any 15-year olds... Currently, Luka is only 20 and is already having one of the greatest individual seasons of all time. Even if he doesn't get any better than he is right now, if he's able to sustain this level of play for the rest of his career, you could put him in the same conversation as MJ/LeBron (if, of course, he's an NBA champion by then)... However, in 9 years time, Doncic will still be in his twenties (!!!) and presumably will be significantly better than he is right now with a decade of NBA experience, NBA diet & body building, as well as adding new things to his game. It's ridiculous.
