Malware warning?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Well if everyone does that, then our revenue goes down. When the revenue goes down I will not have the money to pay for the site. So its up to you guys.

Um... Glen?

When will revenue be easier for this site to gain so you don't have to use Advertising? I'm willing to suck it up because of the value of this site, but not everybody on this site has a nice MacBook to avoid these problems. Even I had problems when I used a Windows Operating System with another Mac. It kept closing the FireFox and opening an "armyprotection" fake ad that kept causing FireFox to malfunction.

I know you need revenue for this site, so wouldn't it make sense to also donate to help out? Can you help us out here with coming to some solution? This site is too valuable to be let go. You're an important person to allow this site to continue to be great. What can be done? It's almost the sole reason I surf the net most days. It would be sad if it were to go.

Glen, you said u were taking that factory ad down that freezes the forum. I just got it 4 times in a row?

I have no intentions to let the site go. It is the reason why I signed up for ads to keep this place on the internet. Yes donations would be helpful, but it's not something that I can count on every single year. At least with ads the money is guarenteed. There is no other way to make money for the site other than these ads.

If you are having extreme problems, then go ahead and install the ad blocker if that's what you have to do, because we cannot afford to take down these ads.

Chardon, I'll take a look and see what happened because I did remove them.

I get the warning about once every 20 minutes I'm on the site (for the past 4 or 5 days, and I never click the advertisements. What is the best thing to install so this doesn't happen? I know nothing.

Glen, maybe you've posted this somewhere else but I just can't find it. Or maybe you don't want us RCFers to know this. I was curious: How much does it cost per month to keep the site up and running?

I know I would be willing to pay a small fee each month if it meant not having to deal with the advertising and the malware junk that seems to come with it. In fact, I'm sure there are quite a few of us regulars who would be willing to chip in with some sort of "membership fee" or something like it. Maybe there could be some special privileges for those of us who would pay the fee? Who knows, there might be enough people like me so that you could do away with the ads altogether. Might be worth floating the idea. Just a thought.

One million dollars...

I think an important distinction that's being overlooked is that no one is asking for advertisements to come off the site. They are just asking that the site switch from malicious, annoying, harmful advertisements to advertisements that won't affect their experience on the site or the health of their computer.

I don't know a lot about computers, so I don't even know if this distinction is possible (ie. can you choose the types of sites that advertise on your site), but I just wanted to point out that no one is clamoring for ads to be gone. If it were possible to maintain a solid but slightly smaller revenue stream with less annoying, less malicious ads, that seems like the possible solution for all.

Just my 2 cents.

i would like to know how many people get warnings. I run 3 different computers to get to this site all with different configs (2 vista-one IE, one fire fox and then a windows 7 on firefox), and only maybe once was I hit with anything (dont know if it was this site or damage's site). either way Im really curious why some people seem to be getting hit, while clearly the majority of users arent. It seems really kinda fishy to me.

I use XP.....I also use pop-up stopper free edition (which I've used for years). I use firefox as well. I'm positive these issues have nothing to do with an "unsafe" machine - i.e. a person without a pop-up blocker or anti-virus.

I keep getting frozen on the NorthEast Factory Direct ad, and I do get the fake pop-up thing that says your computer might be infected.

It's possible Vista and Win 7 are eliminating these ad/malware. But one thing is for sure...it's definitely affecting the end-user.

I think if we start getting some users to post what kind of OS and browsers and what-not they use we can get a better grasp of what the problem may be. I am a relatively experienced computer user so these problems are definitely an issue to take seriously - mainly because they are annoying and obtrusive....but it's possible they can cause more serious problems for people who aren't as tech savy.

okay thats what i wanted to check, was to see if maybe this was just someone going to some not safe sites then coming here and it was tripping something on the site.

the other thing i think is important to mention is my work computer was running XP for a while (up until last week) and that was never picking anything up and thats about the most protected computer I can think of. Its just interesting some people get it and others dont.

I thought this was just something my own computer was doing until I saw this thread. There is a huge problem here folks.

Today; my computer did NOT boot up. It said my windows system32 file was either corupted or did not exit. That's the main system file for all things computer. Very bad. I had to do some fancy stuff to make the hard drive actually fix the file temporarily. Don't ask me how as I don't know how I did it. It's something about having to boot up your computer in "safe mode" and then answering some questions before windows actually starts up. It was scary stuff. I've never had this happen before.

I've been getting ALL the same messages from visiting in here. You do not have to click any ad at all.

Glen; this is your ad supplier's responsibility for making sure their ads do not have malicious code embedded in them. If they will not FIX or DELETE the infected ads, change ad suppliers.

It almost crashed my computer. I fear the same thing will happen when I shut it off tonight as well. Something is trying to corrupt or delete the entire operating system from my computer and is installed in the ads.

I agree. If these errors don't stop, I will have to stop visiting the site at work. And if people limit the number of hits that this site gets, then that has to affect your advertising revenue.

This malware warning is a real pain in the ass -- can we get some sort of guarantee that this will be removed from the site?

I love this site, I love talking shit about the Cavs, and I certainly have no problem with Glen making money on the site with advertisements, but this malware crap needs to go asap.

Wanted to add my name to the list of those getting hit with the warnings.

We are discussing all possibilities right now. If you are having troubles with the site, I suggest using Mozilla and installing the ad blocker.
