Malware warning?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
well ive never had a problem. ive got malware bytes running and nod32 with adblock plus in firefox.

NOOOOOOO. ive been hit :(

i just voted in the Z poll, and i got the little pop up.

here is a not great, but okay solution for those of you at work.

I cant believe I forgot about this, because I had switched to it at one point, just because I was bored. If you go to the main home site. there is a drop down menu down almost at the very bottom and for most it will say "RCF 2.0 style". there are two other options there that allow you to view the forums in a different style, neither one of which involve any ads what so ever. while the layout is not even close to optimal it will keep you from getting the pop ups at work. You can actually have it set up so at home you see the forums how you would normally do (including with ads) and at work (or wherever) see just a list of everything. Its a decent work around for those of you in a similar position to me that would get hard core bitched out by the IT guys if something happened.

edit: turns out the drop down is at the bottom of every RCF screen, not just the home page

Ok so im not the most computer literate person and I installed ad block plus but i still see the ads and get the factory direct ad. Im not too sure what i did wrong.

Just got hit....it was fun visiting, but that is a nightmare of a problem to have just trying to visit. Count me out til it's fixed.

if your right click on any of the ads you should have the chance to block them.. also when you installed ad block plus did you switch it to the US ads? its preset for the chinese ones and if you just run through the install its an easy step to miss

Glenn, PM sent about a possible new solution to the Ads/server situation.

I spoke with the administrative team from our ad network and they explained to me that we were displaying 3rd party ads that were giving out malware. They went ahead and looked over my account and got rid of all the infected advisers. They also assured me that everything should be fine from here on out.

Once and a while a 3rd party advisor might sneak in the rotation, so its important that everyone contact us asap when you get a warning.

i love you glennnnnn!!!

go browns! :chuckles:

VERY good Glen!

Strange that the ad firm doesn't do more vetting on their own ads though. Vetting the ads would put a stop to the bad ones as they would not make the rotation to begin with.

I needed to bump this thread.

Ads in here are still forcing malware into your computer. The thread I viewed quickly changed to some "virus protection" site that all the sudden said it was scanning my computer. I quickly shut down the computer.

I guess I am wondering why these forums don't use Google Adsense instead of what they are using for ad revenue? Google does a darn good job of screening ads. In fact; I've never heard of any ad that had malware attached to it.

All I know is the ad network this site is using is not working. They can claim they are screening and watching the ads..... but Nope. I believe two networks are at work in here; IE: Burstnet and Doubleclick. My recommendation is to use Adsense, and is my humble opinion.

Thanks for letting us know DougHeil. It would be helpful to let us know which ads are popping up that are giving you these warnings so we can remove them.

Adsense used to be our main source of ad revenue in the passed, but unfortunately the ads were abused. We have been trying to get our Adsense account back for a few years now, but they keep rejecting our request.

I got one of those fake virus protection ads last night as well. I had no idea what ad was the culprit. I was viewing a really old thread though, if that matters.
