For a primer on all of the mythology, you should read Silver Surfer #34-38. Thanos Quest #1-2, and then Silver Surfer #44-48 and #50.

And then finally, the limited series, Infinity Gauntlet (six issues). All of that is the genesis and basic core of the entire MCU plot-line. Though many changes have been made. You can read them online for free: http://readcomiconline.to/Comic/Silver-Surfer-1987/Issue-34?id=11658#3

Some frames are shot for shot, though with different characters due to the licensing for different properties.

Surfer/Banner crashes into Dr. Strange's house.

I’m honestly going to read all of this.

There's a youtube channel called "comics explained" that did a pretty extensive review of the Infinity Gauntlet story.

Think I’m going to buy the collection as well :conf (11):

You really think they’re going to kill off a bunch of heroes? Especially Spider-Man when they just got him?

I think that, at the very least, we're going to lose several of the original heroes. Captain America is fucked for sure. Iron Man likely is too. I think Thor might stick around, and I hope he does because Ragnarok was fucking great and I'd like to see more of that Thor. But this is an excellent opportunity for Marvel to get rid of some of the old guard that don't want to continue making superhero movies, and now that they have the rights from X-Men and Fantastic Four back, they've got a pretty solid road map for the future.

I do think that Spidey lives, though. Hard to see them killing him off after they struck gold with Holland. Dude is just perfect for the role.

The read is worth it.

I had not read these comics since they came out but on re-read it is a very compelling narrative about Thanos in particular.

You learn what makes him tick, that he is actually quite rational, and ultimately what the Infinity Gems did to him and the curse they are.

Nerd. And a laye one at that, so the mainstream ones will reject you from their herd.

Hold old is the story? My bro was the comic reader/artist, i know the characters and mainly xmen storylines through the original card sets (I have my bro all my first issue cards years ago :p) but the rest is just a childhood blur. I remember Thanos as the purple raisin with the glove that looked like it came from a treasure store.

1990-1991 I believe.

Thanos is resurrected in Silver Surfer #34 and Gauntlet happens right after SS #50. So it was an almost 18 month cross-over event.

They really built it up slowly. IMO, the two-part Thanos Quest, was the best of the tie-ins because it showed him acquiring each gem. And he didn't have to resort to force to do it. He used cunning and guile, and a lot is revealed about how he thinks.

Yeah, I have that as well. It's fucking insane. The movies are going to stray quite far from the actual story, but the motivation appears to be similar.

I think there's a good chance that a lot of people die only to be brought back

Yo Thanos just exploded some rat man who had it coming in his quest.

Am I able to just jump into the Gauntlet? Not gonna lie the Silver Surfer was boring me. @gourimoko @King Stannis

IIRC if you have a decent broad understanding of the marvel universe then you can go into the infinity gauntlet series relatively cold and keep up. Should be fine. I read it about 7 years ago

I've seen people comment that they saw spoilers on youtube and other places accidentally, so I am going dark on Marvel stuff until I see it.
