Am surprised at Marvel cancelling Luke Cage. I thought that show was alright - my problem with the show was that it was 3/4 episodes too long. I thought it was far superior to Jessica Jones which i struggled to finish season 1 (despite the presence of David Tennant)

Sounds like it was cancelled due to a lot of behind the scenes issues and creative differences between the writing team, Netflix, and Marvel.

I think we'll know if Marvel and Netflix are officially done if Daredevil gets cancelled. It's consistently the best and presumably most-watched of the Marvel Netflix series.

They're very likely moving all their Marvel IPs to Disney's new streaming service.

Right. I'm sure that's the end goal.

However, they also don't really have a choice with the Netflix shows, right? I assume Netflix can pretty much renew them as long as they want, much like Fox has held onto the X-Men rights for so long by just continuing to make new movies.

Netflix has been adamant that they control whether the Marvel shows get renewed. Whether that is fully true or not, we will probably never know. If a show is just meh, it might just not be worth the headache for Netflix to keep making new seasons.

From what I understand of how Netflix works, I think this goes both ways; in that, a program can only be renewed if Netflix renews it -- however, the IP rights are wholly owned by Disney, so if they don't come to agreeable terms (i.e., Disney demanding high licensing costs), there's nothing stopping Disney from causing the show to be cancelled.

We'll know soon enough, but given the popularity of the series, I highly doubt this is some kind of permanent cancellation. More like a temporary hiatus to switch networks.

This creates an issue with Disney's family programming. The Marvel shows on Netflix are not Disney friendly.

Finished Daredevil. This post is going to be spoiler-free, outside of minor things you'd get from watching the trailers.

If that's the last season, it will be a damn shame, because it was fucking fantastic. Basically everything worked. The new characters were all great, particularly Nadeem, Poindexter, and Sister Maggie.

I really enjoyed the depiction of Bullseye. I thought they nailed it, and he was a great contrast to Nadeem, both of whom are targets of Fisk's manipulation. And to that end, the way Fisk manipulates people is fantastic. They did a great job of showing how he's got a hand in everything, silently pushing things in his favor behind the scenes. We saw this in season one, but it was amplified significantly this year.

I think this was also the first Marvel Netflix show where thirteen episodes never felt too long. I always thought past seasons of each show really would have been better with ten (and that was apparently the case with Iron Fist, although I haven't gotten around to S2 yet), but this season of Daredevil just breezed right by. The only complaint is that maybe the first few episodes move a little slowly, mostly due to Fisk still being behind bars and Daredevil recovering from the events of The Defenders.

The single-camera sequence in episode four is probably one of the best television action scenes I've ever seen. Just incredible from start to finish, and a technical marvel as well. The fight scenes in general delivered. Bullseye was a ton of fun and the few times Kingpin mixes it up are violent and brutal. "Give me your coat" is a great example of this.

The final scene was a little too cheesy for my liking, but other than that this was just a home run of a TV season. Honestly, probably one of my favorite individual TV seasons ever. I have had a couple of issues with some of the decisions they've made compared to what happens in the comics (like I did with the decision to kill off Elektra in season two before they even introduced Bullseye...his killing of Elektra in the comics is probably Daredevil's most iconic moment, along with what comes after it), but it still all works on screen.

This season also proved that this series is at its absolute best when they ditch all the Hand and ninja bullshit and just focus on crime stories. The same is true in the comics, as most of his best stories involve conflicts with Wilson Fisk and Bullseye (usually hired by Fisk). Bullseye just works so great on screen too, and given his history in Daredevil comics, every time he's on screen there's an undeniable tension because any character death could be in play. You know some random thug isn't going to kill someone Daredevil loves, but Bullseye sure as hell might and probably will.

Really hope the positive buzz leads to a ton of people watching and this beats the odds and gets renewed. It definitely deserves another season, and the ending leads to an obvious story going forward.

Do I need to watch the rest of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage or Iron Fist to start Daredevil?

Not really. The first Daredevil season was the first of any Marvel Netflix show, so it's completely stand-alone. I don't believe the second season really features much outside of introducing Punisher, but his own show is also pretty much stand-alone.

For the third season, you may want to watch The Defenders, as Daredevil season three picks up immediately where it leaves off regarding Daredevil. And while Defenders does include the other characters, it mostly serves wraps up the Hand subplot that was primarily a Daredevil storyline from seasons one and two. The Hand, if I recall correctly, really only pop up in Daredevil seasons one and two and Iron Fist season one.

Outside of Defenders, each individual season is pretty insulated. I don't think Daredevil season three really has any major references to other shows besides Defenders, though. Like, there are casual mentions of other characters like Jessica Jones in conversation, but they're not important.

I've seen those...I just have really struggled getting through Jessica Jones 2. I look at the episode list and thought, "There are 5 more to go???"

I watched like 2 of the episodes for Luke Cage 2 and haven't attempted Iron Fist 2 yet. I don't know if I have the patience for them.

If you've seen Defenders, you've seen all you need for Daredevil season three.

You don't need to and if our taste is similar to mine, don't even bother with JJ and IF. Luke Cage i enjoyed but felt it was a few episodes too long.

Disney started Touchstone Pictures in the 80s for their 'mature' movie business. They would simply put this stuff under a different banner on their streaming site other than where the kid stuff is.

Jessica Jones season one was great.

Jessica Jones season two was horrible.

So bullets don't hurt Luke Cage but the Bushmaster can punch him in the mouth and make him bleed?
