Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Although when I followed your link for the gravedigging on @The Oi , I also found this on the same page:

Informative! I was high on Karasev when he was drafted, and of course most Cavs fans didn't get to see what he could do that summer because he played with his Russian national team under his father's guidance. Under his dad that summer, he looked like a long sniper with solid fundamentals.

Then Karasev came to America. Yeesh! Delly broke his spirit before the first preseason game.

Do you think any of that is on the development staff? He didn't get many minutes. I know he supposedly loved hookers and nightlife.

Seems kind of similar to Pavs. Had the talent, but didn't put in the work.

He is currently the starting small forward for his father's Russian Euroleague team who gets clobbered every year by CSKA Moscow. I had heard Pavlovic had other vices, but they both saw the NBA as a break from their very strict disciplined upbringing.

It's amazing how many guys with all the raw talent in the world either 1) don't put in the work once they hit the NBA, or 2) have ego-issues that result in them not putting in the right kind of work to adapt their game. Hell -- defend and hit a spot-up three, and you'll always have a job.

I guess the jokes on us. He is back in his comfort zone, made a few million buckaroos, and plays professionally at home.

Most guys don't end up that way when they fail.

I think this is true for a lot of people that are just supremely talented. They rarely work on the other stuff or really even try very hard, and then they find out every single person in the NBA is an above average athlete and some of them are smarter basketballwise. It's easy to blame it on something else and I imagine ego gets in the way a lot.

It's why Sexton is so cool. He wasn't on the radar until he busted his ass to get on there. You see late bloomers succeed and have long careers very often because they didn't get their on the virtue of their talent alone.

Delly too.

I bet there just aren't as many prostitutes keeping Karasev busy in Russia.

...couldn't help that one.

I'm intrigued by Sexton as a weapon, but I'm cautiously optimistic. His style of play will lead to a solid role, but score first point guards aren't all that rare. The Cavs will still have to find a player who can really drive and lead the franchise. I don't believe Sexton will ever be that level of franchise player, but he can be really useful.

He seems to know his weaknesses though and works on them. There are only a handful of pass first guards in the league anymore. People realize it is harder to guard a team where everyone moves the ball.

The guys hgwo can pass but can't shoot are like

Ben Simmons who is Lebron's size
Rondo who is a relic but still shoots 3
Elfrid Payton who was let go for nothing and doesn't get much playing time on a team who desperately needs a pg
Rubio who was hailed as the next Chris Paul but can't shoot and my friend who said he was going to be better than Kyrie looks like fool.
Who else is killing it that can't shoot? I feel like Wall has watched his shot as a great pg dissapear with the emphasis on shooting in the past 4 years.

All the big stars at the pg spot mostly get 5-6 assists a game and score 20+. Sexton can probably do that if he hits his ceiling. He's 19, and has shown a willingness to pass.

I really think getting Delly as his new mentor over Hill is probably the best move the Cavs could have made for him.

I think Prokhorov has a vast majority of the Russian prostitutes on the Nets team jet, don't think it's considered a crime if it's at 30,000ft :chuckle:

I just listened to Redick's podcast with Jimmy Butler, and he basically said as much. Butler and Redick both said that they've had locker room issues with guys because they want to work hard, and lots of other players want to get by on talent and athleticism. And this creates friction.

So yeah, it makes sense that just like in every other career or life pursuit, the difference maker is less about talent or brilliance, and more about hard work and confidence.

The last time Delly had a positive net rating he was playing for the Cavs.
The coffee must be special in Cleveland.
It's our dark mistress. The secret to our blue collar work ethic. You give a northeast Ohio native 5 hours of sleep and a cup of black coffee for breakfast, and they'll fucking move mountains. It's in the ecology of this area, but you don't have to be born here to appreciate it and embrace it.

But, never underestimate its potential.
