Moneyball Comes to Cleveland

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's a massively big change like hiring a koala to babysit your human toddler after three consecutive kangaroos let the kid escape from the house.
False DePodesta much more resembles an endangered species of owl.

At least this guy knows how much Weeden sucks. 0% chance he wastes his time on a guy with a career ERA average of 5.02 in the minors.
Probably the best thing about this is now we can think of creative ways to talk about Carlos Santana's batting average in the Browns section!
@The Oi @Lord Mar @Real Deal @godfather

Im really intrigued by this. DePodesta is a pretty bright guy and has the acumen to build an organization. One knock might be they he got canned in LA because he had turned off allot of manager candidates because of his analytical bent. He may run into a similar issue with the good ole boys club of NFL coaches. He is several years older and wiser though and might have an ideal candidate in mind (PAtricia).

36 career HBP

He's been throwing at the other team since you were in diapers.

Wait did we really get DePodesta or could Haslam only afford the Jonah Hill character?

At least we didn't hire the manager, Philip Seymour Hoffman... that guy is dead.

On a more serious note, who the hell knew DePodesta was originally a football guy? That makes me feel like this crazy thing just might work.

Say what you will about DePodesta and Brown's backgrounds but both are highly regarded and highly intelligent.

It's clear after this hire that we're going to go hard into the realm of analytics... these guys are going to be leading THAT effort and they're pretty damned good in that field. DePodesta has turned around an absolute dumpster fire of an organizational structure in New York.

They're not going to be scouting or developing the talent... can we please wait until those guys are hired before we judge what Haslam is building?

For those whining about how the Browns can't attract any top talent at HC or GM, I'll bet you anything the opportunity to join an analytics effort like this going to perk up more than a few ears for both positions. This suddenly makes the Browns gig stand out.

Analytics has transformed baseball. If it manages to work here, we could end up years ahead of the curve. Not saying it will but I'm 100x more intrigued about what Haslam is building now than I was yesterday.

At the very least, Jonah Hill will get another movie out of it.

The conventional method hasn't worked since 1999, so why not? I like it. With the apparent direction the Browns are going, it seems like Patricia would be the perfect hire at HC.. They are making it interesting as always, that's for sure.

I'll be damned..... apparently it was Alec Scheiner who pulled this out of his ass.

I don't like Scheiner but I'll have to admit he's a little less useless in my eyes today than he was yesterday. I'll give him props for this outside the box idea. So crazy it might work.

This team it's gonna catch a ton of shit from the traditional football world over this. This is a pretty bold move. DePodesta just needs to continue to reference the 90s Indians, maybe even get Kenny Lofton, Carlos Baerga, and Omar to be at the presser.

Most people seem to have a ton of respect for Brown and DePodesta, so we might not catch as much shit as you'd think.
