Monta Ellis

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I really hope you guys don't forget how good we are when healthy.

We don't need THAT much help. We just gotta be able to keep the roster on the floor and not in suits

until someone gets injured and then you say - "oh damn we screwed whos gonna step up"

we better get all the help we can get, depth is crucial during the season to provide rest for everybody and limit minutes/injuries.

about ellis, a great player but small and not a good defender, great offensive player though can definitely be our playmaker off the bench.

Let me know of a team that can stomach losing 45% of its payroll and survive.

The focus of this FA period can't be winning the 2015 Finals, that's all I'm trying to say. Ad hoc signings are what bit the Cavs in the ass in 2010.

We do need another ball handler. But Monta Ellis isn't going to be that emergency glass player either.

He's a bad fit on this team. Guards need to knock down 3's. That's not Ellis.

Two guards also need more size than point guards. Monta Ellis is shorter and has less length than even Kyrie.. i'd move Kyrie to the two before Monta Ellis.

I have said it in the other thread, let's consider Rudy Gay. I wonder if SAC will let him go though. He's current deal will look cheap once the salary cap rose to 100+ mill.

That'd be a good addition. But we don't have the assets to get it done.

I kept thinking about it whenever Iggy was guarding Lebron. Who is the next SF that we can get who can do what Iggy does? It was Rudy Gay, shame that SAC may keep him and we will probably need a lot more to get him out of there. 1 thing that he can probably do well than Iggy is to run the PNR, being that he played well with multi talented bigs all through out his career.

Going back to Monta, no. I rather kept Shump and just focus on his development. He is probably the perfect compliment to Kyrie on the backcourt. For all the criticism in his offense, his 1 on 1 D on Klay was tremendous all through out the series. Beside, i do think that Dallas will keep Monta seeing that he may have been their best and consistent player for the last 2 year.

Fantastic fit alongside LeBron and the rest of the roster....if Love and Kyrie are hurt again. Would've provided valuable penetration and scoring for us.

Seriously would've been great for us in the Finals, not sure much (not at all for that matter) when we're slated to have our Big 3 back.

He has a player option and the feeling is that he will opt out:

“I haven’t talked to him lately, but I’m guessing he’ll opt out,” Nowitzki said Tuesday at the Mavericks’ Hoop Camp presented by Academy Sports and Outdoors at Episcopal School of Dallas. “Why would he not. He had two phenomenal seasons here. He was our closer and our leading scorer last year. And I’m sure for his market value he feels like he was a little underpaid."

Fantastic fit alongside LeBron and the rest of the roster....

He can't shoot 3's. When he has the ball in his hands teams will sag off, packing the paint. This means even if he passes it to Irving or James, the spacing and lanes are clogged.

If we add a scorer, the guy has to be able to knock down open 3's.

Do you have any one in particular in mind? Jamal Crawford maybe?

Crawford is at least realistic. Ellis is looking to get paid, and frankly, shouldn't even be part of this discussion as we'd need to trade assets to get him.

I'd prefer Mo Williams, oddly enough, to either player. I think he's exactly the kind of guy we need next to/behind Irving in the backcourt rotation; and let's be honest, Delly is no point guard. He's great defensively, but offensively, he's got a lot of work to do.

That doesn't mean I want Delly gone; quite the contrary. I just don't want him running the offense for long stretches of the game; I think Mo can do that though.

It's a good point, and he'd surely be much more attainable than either Ellis or Crawford. I also absolutely agree on Delly, I love having him on the team and he's shown how valuable he is to us but he is not able to reliably create his own shot. I would personally prefer Crawford over Mo because while he may not be as consistent from downtown, he does have a great handle and ability to find the open man, which makes him servicable as your primary ball handler when Kyrie and Bron aren't in the game. At the same time he has the size to play SG so I think he's a bit more versatile than Mo in that regard. the big question is the price tag and wether or not a trade would actually be worth it for us. that is of course assuming that the Clippers keep him around and don't excersice their team option, which I don't think is going to happen.
