Mullens Declares For Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Mullens case is one of the exceptions to the rule. This is why i do not like the NBAs ban on Highschool kids in the draft. I think Stern should limit the number of 18yos in the draft to 4 or 5 kids, and limit the number of 19yos to 9 or 10, all based on NBA talent, with exceptions made for severe cases like Mullens, where the family obviously is in need of the cash.
Would be nice to see a 7 footer drop to 30th in the 1st round though.

But how or where would you draw the line?

U have a set maximum number per age, say 4 18yos. U have the 30 GMs in the NBA vote on all the ones that want to come into the draft based on talent. U pick the top 4. Players who are in dangerous financial situations, such as homelessness, which from experience i can tell you it is very dangerous, can aply to the NCAA and NBA for an exemption.
It would be important to limit the college freshmen in a similar way.

You'll have some GMs who don't vote for kids based on draft position.

Just make the college requirement 2-3 years and be done with it.

The next Robert Swift everyone....

Kufos fell and I think Kufos was way more skilled then Mullens. Let's hope Ferry uses som of Gilberts money or makes some moves on draft day that net us Mullens or Patty Mills. I prefer Brandon Jennings butI don't think we can get that high in the draft.

And you don't think any of the GM's would vote for someone not as good as to screw over the top teams that want a young player? Keep them in college.

You guys definitely saw more OSU basketball than I did this year, but here was my take: Mullens is similiar to Greg Oden in athleticism, but has yet to learn the finer points of the game. I also noticed that if the Buckeyes had a true distributor like Mike Conley Jr., Mullens could have scored about 10 more points per game.

I think Mullens has a better chance of developing an offensive game than Oden does.

I was one of the lone voices supporting Kosta Koufos in last year's draft. Out on the West Coast, pundits were calling him soft as Charmin. In the limited time Utah needed him, he produced very well. His starting numbers had him at around 10ppg, 6rpg, and nearly two blocks. A good system can always use athletic 7 footers who have a few offensive weapons in the arsenal. I would still love to see a developmental 7 footer on this Cavs roster.

Z's declining effectiveness as a big minutes center will be the elephant in the room next offseason. I don't know if we can move up in the draft, but I keep hearing that the NFL Draft is being affected by the economic climate. I would think the NBA is going through a similiar situation. As other posters have mentioned, Pavlovic has a partially guaranteed deal for next season, and those become very valuable around the draft.

As a follow-up to Mullen leaving... doesn't Ohio State have any recruits for the 2009 season? The Scouts site and the Rivals site have no recruits listed. Do they not have any scholarships available? If so, does this have something to do with all the recent Buckeyes going 1 and done?

For a 7 footer with his great athleticism and his potential on offense and defense, a lot of teams are going to take a good look at him. You can sort of compare him to Javale McGee of last year. A big 7 footer with really nice athleticism and potential on both ends of the court. I would say in order for us to get him we would have to trade up to the top 10 in the draft. Also another thing that could happen is Ferry could get him to cancel any workouts he has with other teams and trust Ferry will draft him. Sort of like what we did with Boobie. Mullens is an Ohio boy i believe so he may like the idea of playing with the Cavs.
