Myles Garrett : NFL 2023 DPOY

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Is this guy any good?

Yes. He gets held more than any player I've seen this season. Defenses do so many things to neutralize him. Chip him with TE's and put a RB on his side. I continue to see QB's step away from his side because of the amount of pressure he creates. He garners a lot of attention and with someone who can pressure on the other side it would help because the defense then can't load up on Myles. I love Ogbah but I would also love if we switched up our defense and put another guy on the opposite edge and played Ogbah in the inside DE position.

Is coaching fucking him?

Is coaching fucking him?

No, but lack of depth hurts some. Not having Shelton on the field to eat 2 blockers hurts a bit as well. He had 3 pressures & 1 of them was a hit on the QB. Also, he spent a lot of time against David Bakhtiari, the only tackle graded higher than Joe Thomas this season & who was a 2nd team all-pro last season.

Dude I was at the game yesterday and it was shocking how we were in the stands telegraphing Gregg Williams defensive plays. For some reason he kept Myles on the sidelines on so many 1st and 2nd downs. At first we thought maybe they were limiting him because of his ankle but he was so explosive every time he was in there. It was a head scratcher. We knew every time that Gregg Williams was going to send a blitz so you know The Packers knew. That's why we don't get a lot of sacks. Our defense is extremely predictable. He almost never stands Myles up on the edge. he's always in a 2 point position. The guy is a generational talent and our coaching staff looks like they are limiting him because they damn sure don't know how to use him.

For example. I watched That Ravens vs Steelers game last night and they had Suggs standing up off the edge and with his hand in the ground. they moved him inside to stunt him and they dropped him in the soft zone a few times to confuse the defense. We don't do none of that with Myles. He's always in a 2 point position on the edge. That's it. Just inexcusable to limit such a talented player like that and it's not just Garrett. It's Peppers too so you know this isn't n isolated issue.

He needs to start watching the damn ball though. Jumps offsides every game.

I did a similar sheet in the Coleman thread. Here's the performance of all defensive ends drafted within 8 slots of Garrett over their career:

Garrett's obviously hit a bit of a rut in terms of his production, but it should also be noted that he's playing far fewer snaps on average than someone like Bosa, and when you play fewer snaps that's going to result in more variation in results.

Garrett has been "this" close on a ton of pass rushes. I would love to see your model include QB hurries and hits.

That said, his production took a massive hit with the injury to Ogbah. Myles is literally the only player who can generate any rush off of the edge. In addition, a lot of the interior DL (Brantley, Coley) have picked up sacks due to him collapsing the pocket.

I expect a monster jump in his sophomore season given his work ethic and natural ability. He came in a bit raw with pass rush moves and technique, but I have seen improvement every game using his hands. Bosa on the other hand came in with less natural ability (still a great athlete), but had some of the best hands/technique (and motor) I had ever seen in college.

Bosa also has the benefit of playing next to Melvin Ingram who has been damn good for a long time.

That's not a slight against Ogbah as he looks to be primed for a breakout opposite of Garret.

Holy crap he just kept going up. His head is maybe a few inches under the rim? That puts his max vertical at around 40" for a dude who is 270 lbs.

I don't know if there is a good filterable database but I'd be surprised if there are many NBA athletes who can get close to that.

Good last game puts Garrett toward the top of this chart: Defensive ends taken in the top 8 since 1999. Ranking is based on a player's rank in tackles/game and sacks/game, with a slight weight towards sacks, data extracted from pro-football-reference.com

"KD broke the league,'' Garrett told 'The Ken Carman Show with Anthony Lima' and 92.3 The Fan when asked he watched the finals.

Carman asked him to elaborate. Durant joined the Warriors in 2016 and beat they the Cavs in the NBA Finals the last two seasons.

"You hopped onto a 73-9 team and he took the easy way out in my mind," Garrett said. "It's different when LeBron left. He went to [Miami to join] Wade and Bosh but it wasn't something that was already guaranteed, something you already knew was going to have immediate success. [James] had to gel and work things into place.

"With KD, you just stick him in and he scores. You already knew what they had. They were 73-9 before and you put the second-best player in the world on an already all-time great team and of course you're going to have success, pretty easy success. Anyone can have an off night and they can still find a way to win."

Garrett continued to rip Durant for shortcutting his way to success.

"If I were him I would've never made a move like that in the first place,'' he said. "Me, I'm too competitive to try and ride on somebody's coat tails to get a W. But for him, you might as well stay at the spot you're at now. There's no point in leaving since you've already taken that moniker where he's been called the snake and cupcake and all that. You might as well stay and just keep on winning."

This was posted elsewhere in Cavs section, but I love Myles. Literally no one respects Durant or his "accomplishments" besides Warriors fans
