It most certainly did. I cleaned up the thread and moved the discussion of LGBT rights to the appropriate thread in Off Topic...

Please keep the discussion of that topic in the appropriate thread. This thread is to discuss the NBA's decision to remove the All Star Game from Charlotte. I am also moving this thread back to "Around the NBA"

The NBA has decided to hold the 2017 All-Star Game in New Orleans, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press.

The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Friday because the decision hasn't been announced. An announcement was expected within the day, the person said.

New Orleans replaces Charlotte, which was set to host the game until the NBA decided last month that it wouldn't hold its marquee, mid-season event in North Carolina because of a state law that limits anti-discrimination protections for lesbian, gay and transgender people.

Unlike several other Southern states, Louisiana has not been swept up in legislative efforts to pass laws similar to that in North Carolina -- a fact Gov. John Bel Edwards has touted while lobbying the NBA to bring its All-Star weekend to New Orleans for a third time.

"We embrace our rich cultural heritage and see our diversity as a virtue," Edwards wrote in a letter to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver in late July. "Should the NBA choose to bring the All-Star Game back to New Orleans in 2017, it will strongly reaffirm its commitment to communities that value fairness and inclusion."

Would've been nice to have it in Orlando, but whatever..

Yeah, I get moving it from Charlotte (even though, again, Charlotte was the city that tried to push forward transgender rights to begin with before we got fucked by the right wing state legislature and governor), but going right back to a city that hosted it recently is weak.

How many fucking times does New Orleans get to host the ASG...let’s get some new venues.

3 times in what... 12 years? That's beyond ridiculous. Fuck New Orleans. Not really but come the fuck on.

It will actually be 3 times in nine years. Three times in the same decade!!

The one bright side about the game being in NO is Cavs players tend to ball-out. LeBron got the ASG MVP there in 2008, and Kyrie got it in 2014. So maybe we can keep the streak going in 2017?

It is my understanding that Silver wants renovations done in Cleveland before we become a serious candidate for the All-Star Game. Any idea what these improvements may be? We've hosted enough shit for the city to be viable and the arena isn't that old and just had the RNC.

I would love love LOVE getting a future ASG.

Seriously. It was good enough for the RNC, the Avengers, and the NBA finals but not good enough for your clown show? Gtfo. Silver is so unprofessionally moody and arbitrary. If there's a lockout, he'll play a role in it.

Shush. Silver has been great as commissioner.

Just because he didn't pick Cleveland, doesn't mean he is unprofessional. It is possible the Cavs were NOT interested in hosting it this year.

I think Lloyd or someone said a long time ago the Cavs were aiming for the all-star game in 2019 or 2020.

Haven't been to the Q in a while.

Any ideas what he specifically means?

Whether Cleveland's interested or not isn't relevant. My comment was about Silver's evaluation that Cleveland isn't ready. He made that comment and hinted at infrastructure/capacity problems--umm what? Quickens has a greater attendance capacity than Smoothie King. The RNC also had roughly twice the attendance of every 2016 NBA finals game and did fine.
