New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Anyone catch 'Halt and Catch Fire' season 3 from back in October? I'm half-way through it at the moment. Glad that AMC are giving it the opportunity to finish telling its story by renewing it for its finale in season 4. One of the more underappreciated pieces of television at the moment - nothing incredibly special but good watching nonetheless.

It's so depressing going from Westworld to The Walking Dead.

It's like going from LeBron James to Dion Waiters.

I'm getting caught up. The show was never that good, but it used to be at least entertaining. It's now so boring and pointless, I can't think it will be on air much longer.

Quite clear the writers have ran out of ideas and don't really know what to do. They're just stalling other stories with a bunch of side stories that suck. Other plots are just repeating itself.

And the characters couldn't be more one-dimensional. The acting and dialogue is really cheesy and just bad...

There also seems to be no purpose, or even point to the show anymore. No bigger picture, no purpose to find out what happen.

Is the entire premise always going to be just about surviving? That's it? There's never any direction other than that? If that's just the entire theme of the series, and it's dragged out way too long. Rinse, wash, repeat! Boring...

This show officially blows now.

Some of my new favorites from 2016. So things like GOT won't be included. If I don't list something that seems surprising I probably didn't see it. Hard to keep up these days. Also some quick plugs about 2017.

Netflix:

Stranger Things- Just a solid show that brings back memories. With the rebirth of Star Wars, it looks like Sci-Fi is making a big comeback both on the big and small screen.

The Crown: Historical dramas aren't exactly my favorite genre of show. But it is hard not to enjoy Lithgow as Churchill and the attention to detail in this show.

Luke Cage: Marvel and Netflix continues to be a great duo.

I want to see Black Mirror.

2017:

Marvel and Netflix have a full slate with Iron Fist, Punisher, and the Defenders. A Series of Unfortunate Events will set the tone for 2017. And David Fincher is making something called Mindhunter which you think would be good. Netflix is supposedly doubling their original content in 2017 so I'm sure many more shows will become popular.

HBO:

Westworld: Probably the best new show of 2016. HBO needed this to be good and it was.

The Night Of: Really good. I consider this to be the second season of True Detective. Wish it got more press.

2017 and onward.

David Simon is back with The Deuce, a show about the rise of the legal porn industry and exploring things like the rise of HIV. If this is even close to the Wire, it will be a masterpiece.

Hulu:

The Path: I thought this was pretty good but Hulu hasn't really caught mainstream yet. But I thought by the end it really found its footing. Examines a cult and the complications from that.

Horace and Pete: Really unique show from Louis CK. It isn't a Hulu original but was recently added. I watched the whole thing in like a day or two.

2017:

Handmaid's Tale is coming in March. Based on a Margaret Atwood dystopian book where women basically have no rights. Has a chance to really put Hulu on the map with Elisabeth Moss staring.

AMC/FX

I'll combine these two. I have heard decent things about Preacher and the Night Manager but didn't watch either. I really liked Baskets on FX. Not everyone's cup of tea but I enjoyed it. Atlanta and American Crime Story both are at the top of critic's lists but I haven't seen either.

2017

FX hits the ground running with Taboo with Tom Hardy and Legion, a Marvel X-men show. AMC doesn't have anything jumping off the page for 2017 for new shows.

International Shows:

Just a mixed bag here:

Doctor Foster on Netflix is a good family drama with a dark side. If you aren't watching Peaky Blinders you're wrong. Also Happy Valley is a good crime drama and for a light-hearted show on a lazy afternoon, the Detectorists is a good watch.

For 2017:

Things start off with a bang with Sherlock Season 4 on January 1st.

I'm most of the way through Westworld, it may be my new favorite show.

Just finished Westworld - best show ever.

How can it be that as huge a fan as I am of Christopher Nolan, I didn't realize there is also a Johnathan Nolan?

Regarding international shows, check out the Israeli show Fauda on Netflix. Apparently it was called "The Wire of the West Bank", and explores the Israeli Palestinian conflict from both sides centered around an Israeli deep cover team. I really enjoyed it, and it apparently became a cultural phenomenon where more than half the households in Israel would watch every new episode. To me it was very enlightening about an area and culture I'd never really studied or looked at before.

I keep hearing good things about Westworld. Too bad I let my subscription expire.

HULU

Shut Eye - It's a show about gypsies and the king family running the show. Stars Jeffrey Donovan (Burn Notice, Fargo) as a psychic trying to help people. Show has a similar feel to burn notice. Only 2 EPs in and already a pretty hot lesbian scene with tits.

Amazon Prime

Mr. Robot - Has received Emmy nominations and lead actor (Rami Malek) has won an Emmy. Stars Christian Slater as Mr. Robot, the leader of the hacker group Fsociety. It's a brilliant show if you ask me.

I really liked 'travellers'. On the season finale now apart from a weak pilot its had some great genre scifi

Seems like forever since Better Call Saul ended season 2. I want that show back now.

Anyone who's watched Atlanta care to summate the show and their opinion of it? It's been on my list of shows to start but winning a globe in it's first year may move it to the top of the list.
