New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm on S1E5 of Black Sails, anyone else watch this show?

I tried when it first came out. Episode 5 is probably about all the farther I made it. It really dragged for me and I had a hard time finding characters I cared about.

Just started Billions. So far, so good, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the main character is secretly an agent of ISIS.

Just finished Lost in Space on Netflix. I enjoyed it. It's definitely one of the better new shows Netflix has put out in the last year. The budget was well spent, at no part did you feel like they cheaped out to not give it the production value it deserved. It felt like a big budget movie for 10 episodes.

I never watch the original series and thought the movie wasn't good. This was a good blend of what Hollywood has created as a modern space movie. They definitely borrowed alot from movies. The feel (coloration and cinematography) at times was like JJ Abrams Star Trek. The vehicles are alot like the Martian. The early terrain was like Interstellar. The robot is very similar to the future sentinel from X-Men: Days of Future past. As a series, it felt like a better version of Terra nova, which I liked alot before it got cancelled.

As for new series from Netflix in the past year. This isn't up to the writing level of Mindhunter or Dark. Budget is definitely higher though. I liked it more than Altered Carbon. It's kids safe but in no way dumb down as alot of family oriented tv or movies.

Good for a 6 year old?

For those who have watched Billions, do they at some point go over what he exactly did after 9/11 to get his billions? Or did I miss that?

I'm not done with season 1 yet.

Been a while, but pretty sure they do tell you that. Not sure if it was season one or two, though.

Yeah I think it's fine for a 6 year old. If you let them watch the new star wars movies, they should be fine. There are alot of flash backs that might get questions being asked because sometimes it's not that clear it's a flash back.

I don't remember it as a big reveal or anything.
He was either the only survivor from his firm or one of the only ones. He basically got control of the fund quickly after 9/11 and took advantage of all the companies stocks that were tanking because of it. It was what allowed him to start his current company but it allowed him to make sure all of the widows and families of his old company were taken care of.

They just went over the missing chapter from that lady's book where they talk about why he wasn't in the building at the time.

I don't even remember that part. I might have spoiled it for you (sorry). It's just a character building moment for Ax. Billions seems to do that from time to time, you aren't sure if you missed the part where they explained it or it's the set up for them to explain it later. It's the way some stuff is presented to the audience, like you should know this already.

I've asked my friends that work in the finance/stock market to explain something to me which then gets explained later on in the episode or the season.

Well, the first three episodes are pretty good...but too intense for my daughter. I'd guess these would scare the shit out of her! Not as bad as when my dad took me to see Alien when I was 6 but still.

I didn't think of it from a intensity level, I feel like alot of kids don't pick up on that. I just thought of it from a content stand point and there wasn't anything too scary and the language is tame.

My mom let me see Major League when I was 5 and I thought it was amazing. My mom clamped down on scary content though after my little brother had nightmares from a Dracula NES game. Me and my older brother till this day don't know how 8 bit NES graphics can cause nightmares.

I think the overall level of action intensity would be too much. Unlike me when I was a kid (see the movie thread), I try not to expose her to too much too soon.

That's probably for the best. I was helping a friend out and I was watching the movie Up with their kids. The 4 year old freaked out 3/4 of the way thru the movie and made me turn it off. He was convinced they were going to kill the bird and didn't want to see it happen. I finished watching it later and tried to assure him it didn't happen the next time I saw him but I couldn't ever get him to finish the movie.

I had my nephew watch Jurassic Park when he was probably too young. Let's say that he liked half the movie.
