The Gold is Golder: New uniforms to come?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
http://www.nba.com/cavaliers/releases/updated-logo-170531

Guessing the new word marks will be reflected on the jerseys next season. This is a total downgrade in my opinion, especially getting rid of the primary logo with the basketball.

Also, from the press release, it looks like black is here to stay:
Navy remains a complimentary color, while black is officially introduced as a new and permanent addition to the Cavaliers color palette. Black is a nod to the historic turning point in the 2016 NBA Finals when the Cavs wore their black-sleeved uniforms in games 5 and 7 of the NBA Finals when they beat the Warriors in Golden State. The Cavaliers were the first team in NBA history to overcome a 3-1 deficit en route to winning the NBA Championship.

Not a fan of this weird new font they're gonna use. Either go modern/distinctive like the 2003-2010 font, or traditional and throwback like the 2010-2017 font.

But this new one is a weird mixture of both and I can't see how it would appeal to anybody.

Also I guess this is the official end of the basketball sword logo :(

Can we make some more mock unis with the black logo in mind?

"The new sharp edges of the Cleveland Cavaliers and CAVS typeface are inspired from notions of a defender and the motion of a sword."

The Brown remains the same

So the C with the sword is now the primary? I'll always love the C as a great secondary logo. The Indians wished they could've came up with that C compared to the boring block.

PROS:

-the font is... fine
-I actually don't mind the addition of the shield element
-they are dropping the flag logo it seems; not a pro in and of itself but I'm glad that since they are adding new logos they aren't keeping an extra one like that around
-a bit more consistency in identity between logos and colors; justification for the overuse of navy & black, which I still don't support
-still calling them the Cavaliers and not going back to just Cavs
-remaining wine & gold primarily

CONS:

-black and navy together and too much of both
-completely losing the 03-10 wordmark that inspires our logo and hasn't been topped since
-that wine & navy shield just doesn't work with the wine C; maybe if it was white?
-complete dependence on the dimensional C logo when the flat version was always better
-I still don't know what global logo means

They've been doing a better job phasing out the old primary better than the Tribe has done for Wahoo. You barely see it these days anyway. But I am sad to see it go. What I'd love to see is them drop the navy and black and just go with wine & gold, but clearly they aren't going that direction. Hopefully the jerseys don't suck. Either way the rebrand likely means oodles of cash so ownership don't give a shiiiiiiiit.

It seems that every NBA team needs to have a logo in their package with a basketball element. Since we are losing our primary they needed that new shield with bball lines on it.

Loving the jersey designs. Only gripe I have, and it's totally personal preference, is I'm not a fan of the wide shoulders. Screams early 2000s and 1 mix tape to me.

As for the Cavs' new logos... whatever. I hate the shields though. Too many teams are going to that, and it looks like an MLS logo.

Nike butchered FC Barcelona's design scheme and it looks like they might very well do the same with the Cavs.

The global logo is vapid and lifeless for me. Looks like somebody added some text and the Cavs 'C' to a clipart shield. The only thing that's somewhat passable are the wordmarks and even those aren't so great.

Taking out the navy and replacing it with black of all colours (yeah, I know, I know, the Cavs wore black to come back from a 3-1 deficit, blah, blah, blah) kind of pisses me off too.

Don't get your hopes up for incredible jerseys, gentlemen. Think we're going to be getting something a little more busy than our current lineup but something equally as unimpressive.

Unfortunately I have way too many meaningless thoughts on this topic, but for now I will say it is weird that our primary logos and wordmark logos are entirely separate entities. The only exception to this is the global/international logo.

Usually there’s 1 or 2 logos in a set that contain the team name that isn’t just the wordmark.

"Global shield" is an indirect way of saying soccer shield
