Offensive Staff Thread (David Lee hired as QB Coach)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Cleveland Browns have announced that the following coaches have been relieved of their duties:

Louie Cioffi (defensive backs)

Johnny Holland (inside linebackers)

Hal Hunter (offensive line)

Cannon Matthews (assistant defensive backs)

Ryan Slowik (outside linebackers)

Hal Hunter is a surprise. The rest, well...bye.

So Hue is basically starting to admit he hired the wrong guys. How long until Jimmy does the same?

Well, most of these guys are all fired because of Williams. So I think Hue admitted he fucked up the defensive side.

Hunter is rather shocking. But I'd rather Hue make these changes now, I guess. I think Jimmy will give him, at least, 2 more years.

To me, the best hires remained:

Nunn
Saunders
Wilson

Hunter was one of the last hires last year. I do not believe he was Hue top choice.
It's not hard to argue that Williams and Roman are upgrades over their predecessors.

Excited to see who gets hired as OL coach. Roman has experience as OL coach, QB coach, and offensive coordinator

Also, Horton wasn't even Hue's first choice. That should definitely be taken into account.

Seems to me Hue was forced to put a staff together hap hazard and now wants to put the staff he wants together.

Not a bad thing, imo.

Exactly. Don't think this train of thought hurt in Hue's meetings with Jimmeh, either. Bottom line is if there is a candidate Hue thinks would work better than the one in place, he's got to make that move. The one caveat is the whole issue with the Senior Bowl and needing a majority of the staff back.

Right -- and it's not just who he preferred, but who was even available to be hired. Different coaches are available this year than were available last year, and even next year, there will probably be some coaches available whom he and/or Gregg Williams liked who were under contract for this year.

Continuity in the NFL to me is keeping the same ownership-GM-head coach.

When it comes to assistant coaches/scouts/etc, turnover should be expected in those areas all the time whether you're successful or not.
