Its garbage. There's only a few rap artists I like that are still making music.

This is the shit you like?

Love you too.

Yup. I like the kid. His freestyle on Sway was pretty solid too. His production and videos for being young and independent are pretty good too.

I like a lot of shit. From Tyler the Creator, to Mos Def, to all the shit inbetween. I like passion and honesty in my music. Skill never hurts either.

Another dude I've been into lately. Kinda reminds me of a young Cole, but def has that Brooklyn vibe. Been a while since I've found a couple new artists I can really get into.

One of my favorite groups is Cunninglynguists(trio of 3). All 3 of them went on to release solo albums, each one of them had a different vibe, flow and slightly different outlook.

They are not about the bitches and drugs, and are real and really connected with what I felt at the time and even feel till this day.

The most talented imo is Kno who is also the producer. Had one of the best albums I have heard to date.(Maybe Nostalgia speaking and the fact that he hits me right in the spot)

Natti(part of the group) also had some nice singles. Kind of a different vibe.

You like The Roots? they are dope.

Look, I'm not asking for the world here. I'm not talking about one type of style either. 90's hip-hop, early 2000's, we had so many styles. New classics were coming out every other Tuesday.

Where are the Wu-Tangs/ Hiero... crews that can all RAP.
Where are the EPMDS/ Mobb Deeps/ Das EFX's... All very different styles, but duos that could RAP.
The De Las, the Tribes... nothing like them exist.
Nas? (J-Cole ain't it)
Where are the mother effing Dominos even?
Warren G's?
Gravediggaz?
Ice Cubes?
Atmosphere?
Company Flow/ Jedi Mind/ Juggaknots?

I could go on, clearly.

I'm not saying I want people to sound like them, but it's pretty undeniable that they HAD a sound. They could all rap their asses off/ had something to say/ had some damn talent. Yeah we have Kendrick and Vince Staples and some kids that do their thing... But this generation is mumbling and face tatting the scene to death.

Of course. Who doesn't like The Roots?

I have no idea...feels like they were wiped from the earth.

Can you explain to me what you look like about the other dude you also posted about? It's really really tough for me to listen to him.

You know, it feels like to me like music in general nowadays lacks any kind of soul and a real voice. It's a bunch of poster boys that use autotune that have their lyrics written for them.

--This bitch Cardi B for some reason became a sensation, and she is the fucking worst. Absolutely 0 talent.

There are barely any real gifted musicians out there, and the ones that are really gifted either dont get recognized, and the rare ones that are gifted and do get signed get their signature all changed to fit the mainstream and what the label wants them to produce.

I agree with everything you said in this post btw.

What do I like about that dude? Well first, his music is honest. He's a 21 year old kid from Seattle, half white half native American, that looks like a fat child. And thats what he raps about. Where he's from, stuff he's seen splitting time between Seattle and a reservation, etc. His flow is solid (not incredible), but his musicality and hooks are pretty good for an independent artist. Reminds me of a young chance before the gospel over dose.

Him a little more stripped down.

Him, Caleborate, Brockhampton, JID, and Densel Curry are just a few new school guys I've been feeling lately. Hate most of the cookie cutter mumble shit.

Kendrick, Cole, Tyler the Creator are probably the 3 MCs I listen to most...though I still heavy rotate old shit like Mos Def, Talib, classic Ye, etc.

Fun

Am I the only person who likes Fun?!?

Anyway, on the rap side, things are all kinds of fucked up. I can’t even come close to understanding. There’s definitely an element of people having different tastes, but as you said, I think much of it is just garbage.

I like Pusha T and Kendrick rn. I hope those guys keep churning out bangers. I love Kanye too but seems the flow is just not as good. Love his beats, love his character. Love Jay Z but these collaborations with Beyoncé don’t do it for me.

They just need a mix tape where titans of the industry come out and slay tracks. Every rapper or group gets one song. I’d love to have OutKast body the whole industry.

Also need to have some rappers do their thing in a PG way. Like some of this shit is so bad that I have to change the radio station when I am in the car w the kids.

Hip hop is just a bit directionless right now. It’s so commercial, and artists can choose what is in their best interests, including financially. But like you said, no soul, no art. Lots of formula and focus groups.

You bring up Pusha, @natedagg, and I realize that the sound can still work in this era. Pusha still raps like he did in Clipse, and it's good. He goes at Drake and he's popping for a bit. Being on Good Music keeps him out there too. So it really isn't that people don't like that type of savvy, lyrical styling... even if it is coke raps 90% of the time. Content sometimes doesn't matter if you can weave your stories and experiences in a creative and thoughtful manner. So Pushas and Clipses and these types of artists can still thrive. We just don't have them anymore. The guy raps circles around 98% of this thread.

It may come down to the simple fact that kids these days don't spend time on the craft. There's no practice. No demo shopping. They go from not listening to rap, to hearing the new Post Malone a couple of times, to getting their boys with video equipment to help shoot a video. I'm not mad that they're living their best lives... but it means the musical output is completely trash bag.

A piece of shit is still a piece of shit, but...

I like this new generation of rap waaaaaaaaay more than I did the mid 2000s Wayne Era and Chicken Noodle Soup Make a Dance for everything era. Now, even if the artist sucks the production is still fire.
