With the 55th pick in the 2017 RCF Mock Draft, the New York Giants select..

RAEKWON MCMILLAN, LB, THE Ohio State University

STRENGTHS: At a rock-solid 6-2, 240 pounds, McMillan possesses prototypical size for inside linebacker, including a stout core and thick lower half, which help him anchor against blockers. Unlike many of the undersized MIKE backers in today's college football who are reliant on avoiding would-be blockers, McMillan already shows NFL-caliber strength, taking on and shedding opponents efficiently with active, powerful hands, lateral agility and balance. He is a powerful tackler, often stopping ballcarriers dead in their tracks.

This is not to say that McMillan is simply an old-school battering ram. In fact, he shows impressive diagnosis skills to read the play, including the spatial awareness to "slip" blocks simply by taking efficient angles to the ball to beat blockers to the action. McMillan does not possess the same degree of athleticism as his former teammate, Lee (who was clocked at an eye-popping 4.47 seconds in the 40-yard dash at 232 pounds), but he is a coordinated athlete whose quick, choppy steps help him beat backs to the corner and make plays in coverage.

McMillan's dedication to his craft has impressed the Ohio State coaching staff, who already named the third-year junior a co-captain for this season.

WEAKNESSES: As his team-leading tackle numbers prove, McMillan was adept at "cleaning up" a year ago, but scouts are eager to see how he responds now that opposing blocking schemes will be focusing on him. McMillan lacks ideal flexibility, struggling to change directions quickly in tight quarters and occasionally allowing ballcarriers to slip by him. He shows a propensity to misread runs and keep his eyes glued in the backfield too long in coverage.

Further, McMillan is more efficient than explosive in pursuit, raising some questions about his pure speed and potential to remain on the field on passing downs against NFL competition.

Finally, while a generally reliable tackler, McMillan is often more reliant on the power he generates as a face-up hitter to knock down ballcarriers rather than reaching his arms out to catch runners in pursuit or to punch out the ball.

IN OUR VIEW: As a glass-eating, run-stuffing middle linebacker, McMillan is perfectly suited to traditional Big Ten football and may post the gaudy numbers this fall to actually win the Butkus Award as the nation's top linebacker (like he did in high school). If he is to continue Ohio State's legacy of first-round defenders, however, McMillan must convince scouts that he possesses the speed and playmaking ability to remain on the field on all three downs.

More from the combine:

He ran a 4.61-second 40-yard dash, third-fastest among players in McMillan’s position group. But if you take out the 4.46 from Michigan’s Jabrill Peppers — who likely will play safety at the pro level (lol) — LSU’s Duke Riley (4.58) was the only linebacker faster than McMillan. McMillan also put up 23 reps on the bench press, tying him for fifth-most in his position group.

Reasoning:

There hasn’t been a Giants Pro Bowl linebacker since Antonio Pierce in 2006. Since Pierce’s retirement, the Giants have allocated most of their salary cap on defense to the defensive line and secondary, severely under-funding the linebacking corps. As a result, linebacker has been the weakest group in New York.

In 2016, McMillan was solid for Ohio State with 102 tackles, seven for a loss, two sacks, four passes broken up and two forced fumbles. The 6-foot-2, 240-pounder played well in 2015, totaling 119 tackles with 1.5 sacks and four passes broken up on the year. As a freshman in 2014, he played a lot for Ohio State and totaled 54 tackles with 2.5 sacks and a pick-six.

McMillan is a tough defender who has the skill set to be a three-down starter in the NFL. The Giants so far are just letting the draft come to them and not panic. There's still some needs on offense and defense, which they'll look to shore up throughout the draft.

Go Bucks!

The Las Vegas, Oops I mean, Oakland Raiders Select....

Chidobe Awuzie, CB Colorado

Las Vegas, man there I go again, Oakland sticks to their heritage and takes big guys who run fast. Awuzie is a 6'0 corner who ran a 4.43 40 at the combine. A 4 year starter at Colorado, Awuzie is not just an athlete. He's a skilled CB who can play man cover, blitz from the slot and be a demon on special teams. The Raiders lost high draft pick and very often injured DJ Hayden this offseason in free agency so they could use some DB help. Awuzie fits the bill.

  • 6'0"HEIGHT
  • 30 5/8"ARM LENGTH
  • 202LBS.WEIGHT
  • 8 1/2"HANDS
OVERVIEW
Pro corner Nnamdi Asomugha is a family friend of Awuzie (ah-wooz-yeh), but his style of play would make you think he's a relation. He made an immediate impact as a freshman, starting seven games, making 59 tackles, five for loss, and breaking up four passes. Awuzie was leading the team in tackles with 64 through nine games in 2014 (along with two interceptions, eight pass breakups), but missed the end of the year with a lacerated kidney suffered in practice. Healthy again in 2015, he was a second-team All-Pac 12 pick starting mostly at the nickel spot (90 tackles, nine for loss, four sacks, two INT, 10 pass breakups). Awuzie was second-team all-conference again as a senior (65 tackles, six for loss, one INT, 12 PBU), joining two other members of the Buffaloes' secondary on that squad.

ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS
Fluid, controlled steps with easy change of direction allows for extended mirroring from press. Decent jam to disrupt. Carries smooth backpedal downfield with excellent mirror-and-match footwork in man coverage. Digests route combinations from zone and makes wise choices. Athletic with suddenness in his movements. Springy feet allow for abrupt click and close to the throw. Opens and swivels hips for desired transition in all directions. Experienced outside and from slot. Able to maintain coverage on shifty slot receivers. Instinctive with feel for route development. Possesses short-area closing burst. Confident on an island. Finds receiver on deep balls and gets head turned around. Dangerous slot blitzer with seven sacks over final two seasons at Colorado.

WEAKNESSES
Short strider. Appears to lack long, recovery speed if beaten over top. Feels smaller than his listed size. Can be handsy down the field with pulls and tugs that turn into flags as a pro. Managed just three interceptions in college. Run support is lacking. Could use more aggressiveness and commitment when stepping downhill to tackle. Passes on the big hit and allows tight ends and big receivers to power through tackle attempts.

NFL COMPARISON
Prince Amukamara

BOTTOM LINE
Sticky man-cover corner who possesses the reactive athleticism and foot quickness to maintain coverage responsibilities around the field. Awuzie's combination of size and speed pairs well with his instincts providing him what he needs to compete downfield. His inconsistencies as a tackler could turn off some teams, but his abilities as a gunner on special teams may counter that. He can play outside or in the slot and has traits and talent to compete for early playing time.

@Randolphkeys and the SF 49ers are on the clock.

With the 57th pick in the 2017 RCF fake draft, the San Francisco 49ers select:

16653506-mmmain.jpg

Chris Godwin, WR, Penn State

HT: 6'1" WT: 209LBS.
40 YARD DASH: 4.42 SEC
BENCH PRESS: 19 REPS
VERTICAL JUMP: 36.0 INCH
BROAD JUMP: 126.0 INCH
3 CONE DRILL: 7.01 SEC
20 YARD SHUTTLE: 4.00 SEC
60 YARD SHUTTLE: 11.21 SEC

Why:

If you own the 49ers and hired Kyle Shanahan to be your head coach, you made that move to put an entertaining, high scoring passing offense on the field. You are also named Jed and you clearly chose to go the hair plug route dealing with early male patterned baldness. You should demand your money back.

You know the offensive line struggled in run blocking, you know Hoyer is a stop gap... but those positions take a long time to develop in the NFL. What's the short cut to selling home games in a new stadium an hour outside of the city? Weapons. Chess pieces. That's what you get with Godwin, the highest rising wide receiver after the combine. Ideal receiver measurables, fast, smooth in and out of breaks. Marred by inaccurate QB play at Penn State, scouts assumed he was an overachiever. As it turns out, aside from occasional drops, he's everything you want from a #1 receiver. Scouts compare him to Pierre Garcon because he runs a complete route tree, now the 49ers look to build an offense suitable for the top free agent QB in 2018 with a pair of Garcons along with Njoku. Kyle Shanahan's offense is his defense, and now San Francisco has a few offensive weapons to open the box up for Carlos Hyde.

@buckeyefan on the clock!

Arian Foster and Blake Bortles are both available.

Well this happened again.
I know about the injury. A report came out yesterday saying that Jones could possibly play late in 2017. Even if he needs to sit out a year it would still be worth the gamble in the second for a player who I think is a top 3 corner in this draft.

Yeah, relax, he's just 'boatin your boobies.

It's a good pick. Probably about where he'll go to some patient team who sees a bargain.
