Open Discussion (Cavs + related issues)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
this sounds like the kind of thing that Jarret Jack used to do back when he was here that ticked me off. wide open 3, moves up to take a long 2. WTF?

That is absolutely the Jarrett Jack special....good lord. It's worse than I thought with JR. He's turned into a poor mans Jarrett Jack!

Would just like to once again make a toast to the genius that is David Griffin.

*sees GS death lineup featuring maximum spacing and maximum defense.
*thinks to himself 'yeah, we can build something to rival that'
*constructs a team with maximum spacing and no defense

Someone should have stopped this clown before he exhausted all our assets chasing this naive vision

Personally not a Griff fan after the way he acted in the last year in terms of trash talking his boss to competition...

But in all fairness, replace KD with Harrison Barnes and the Cavs could easily be going for a three-peat as the clear favorites right now.

The Cavs roster has its issues but it still generally compliments the hell out of LeBron and would have been dynasty-worthy in almost any other circumstance outside of a 73 win team adding the a top 3 player that happens to fit in perfectly to what they do on both sides of the ball, and filled every single hole they had.

And while GS did a lot of really smart things, they also had unprecedented luck with Currys ankles holding up and him turning into the modern Nash but better while being paid way less than the max, on top of a one-time-never will happen again mega cap increase to open up the cap room to make it possible.

The Cavs definitely made mistakes and the Cavs definitely could have and still can make decisions that will give them at least a better than 0% chance against the Warriors, not saying they are perfect....but I honestly don't see how the fuck you realistically expect to build a roster that can be expected beat the Warriors.

Honestly we had 2 of the 4 pieces to the puzzle with Bron and Kyrie.... I guess if we could have traded for Kawhi without trading Love or Kyrie...still the fact that GS has Klay as their 3rd/4th option outlet when hes probably a top 5 shooter of all time, and an elite defender....maybe throw in Bradley Beal for free too or something.

If I didn't hate GS and their bitchmade ass team so much I would honestly want LBJ to play there for the minimum for 1 year just to see if they could win 75 games and sweep the playoffs for shits and giggles.

A team to compete with GS? Try a team that wouldn't put up a 29th ranked defense a year later. That isn't too much to ask for right?

You're usually optimistic about everything and now you say it was impossible to compete with GS from the start. Was that always your position? We could have lost to GS anyway but it would have been wise to start making moves to trend us in the right direction. What we see this season is just a continuation of what we saw last season. Kyrie is no longer here to paper over the cracks. The team had started to show some major weaknesses by the end of last season, long before the finals

You give Griff to much benefit as he had a whole year after the KD signing to make moves to edge us forward and he continued to neglect the right adjustments, which among other things, is a huge factor in where we currently find ourselves. This isn't hindsight, it was common sense even last year. We aren't where we are right now (2nd worst D) just because of an unavoidable string of bad luck

Edit: and FWIW I don't think Griff was the only culpable person as his hand was forced on certain contract renewals that locked us into this roster

Two paths here: go all-in to try to improve the roster in a sustainable way and try to retain LeBron for next year, or admit defeat and start selling off parts for picks and young development players, expecting LeBron to leave.

The first seems more likely, but we're already too "veteran" of a team. Younger and more athletic (but not too young) is the way to go to maximize LeBron's final years. But what do we have that will serve to get those bits?

The team's a mess and something big needs to happen or we're going to Continue to be a mess. I can't imagine Dan will let things stand as they are till the end of the year.

We still have him under contract right? Bring him back. Get it done koby.

Haha. To be honest, if I were him, Fizdale or really any coach, I would not touch either the Cavs or the Browns. Even after LeBron decides to leave or retire...

Until there's a trade, the Cavs should roll out these two separate groups:

IT
JR (quick early hook - replace with Cedi)
LeBron
Love
TT

Wade
Korver
Crowder
Green
Frye

This feels like a relatively easy fix.

Start Tristan?? What? Why?

Because a lineup flanked by Love and IT has ZERO shot of working defensively, and we have evidence of TT improving the defense in the past. Have to at least see if that's still possible.

Tristan Thompson - DNP-CD

That should be his role every night.

I'm wondering if Love's defensive liabilities are a little overrated, given that our worst defensive outing of the season came in a game he only played 3 minutes in.

In fact, Love has the highest DRPM of any Cavs starter (which is pathetic), and the third highest DRPM of anybody who's played significant minutes for the Cavs this year (Wade and Calderon are higher).
