Owners and players ratify new deal

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I wish they would cut the number of regular season games. Starting the season a week earlier doesn't cut it -- it's just ridiculous to have a six month 82 game season just to certify stuff we already mostly knew about who the best teams are.

Players will never do that. Period.

Nobody will. If games are cut, revenue goes down, which leads to less money for owners, which ultimately leads to less money for players.

A few key notes:
Roster Expansions

And salaries will be dispersed wider. Rosters will expand beginning with the 2017-18 season by at least one and possibly two players, creating at least 30 additional roster spots for players and as many as 60 when accounting for the new “two-way” players who split time between the NBA and D-League. That has the capacity to slow player movement overseas and keep players within the NBA’s universe.

Great for development and great for guys who were forced to go overseas. This should make the draft very interesting. I wonder if it expands to 3 rounds.

Free Agency Sees Loosened Restrictions

Free Agency terms will see reduction of restrictions on first round picks, reducing moratoriums and modifying the rules on qualifying offers, among other changes that will be announced.

And while the details have not surfaced, there will be loosening of Luxury Tax penalties for some clubs in the league. That should increase spending for veterans. In addition, length of contract restrictions on older players will be eased. Currently there is the “over-36 rule” which will move to the “over-38 rule”.
Good for older guys like LBJ who will deserve a max at age 33. Pretty much a legacy contract.

I wonder if D-League players will get a raise in their contracts. They aren't getting paid much.
Each team will have 2 roster spots for "2 way players" that pay more than the DLeague but less than NBA Vet min

The Designated Player Rule is evidently known as the "Kevin Love Rule"

Because that was the only thing that drove him out of Minnesota and not a terrible GM going all-in on Ricky Rubio and insinuating that his injuries were due to him being mentally weak.

Was that the GM or the owner? Either way, that organization fucked up royally in so many different ways.

And if we're being honest, the Cavs botched the hell out of their rebuild. We're all just lucky LeBron wanted to come back home.

Both, actually. If I had put more blame on someone it would be the GM, David Kahn. The owner, Glen Taylor is merely bumbling oaf with no clue how to run a team. He is not nearly as venal as Kahn was toward Love.

NBPA President & VP, Chris Paul & LeBron James putting in work during the negotiations, They just shadow fucked the Warriors organization. :chuckle:

This could mean GSW either has to actually decide between KD and Steph or bring them both back at the cost of having absolutly no money left at all for depth.. They would not be able to bring back Zaza,Iggy,Livingston unless they all take the minimum. And thats not even speaking about improving their already weak depth...

If we can keep them from the Title again this year they might never win one again. Under the new CBA they are fucked. Either run their Big 4 into the Ground in the RS or let one of them go or trade him for depth..

In the end the new CBA makes us look alot better than them in the long run. We will have Bird Rights on all of our core Players by the Time their contracts are up.

GSW hasnt KDs Bird rights... if they dont win the title... will be fun too see if KD is willing to take a Big Paycut to stay in GSW.

Isn't Curry a free agent too?

Yep
He and KD can demand 36m/year

They cant affort both at the max. They simply cant..One of them has to take pretty Big Paycut. under 32m/year otherwise they cant get both back.
With Iggy,Zaza and Livingston all beeing FA's too.. they will have a hard time keeping their Team together..

Either they keep Steph and KD and lose all of their FA Role Players unless they sign for the Vet Min...
Or Steph and Klay have to both take drastic Paycuts(under 30m each) wich is unlikley..

The new CBA is tailor made to make GSW's life as hard as possible and prevent this from happening again..

Will be an interesting Summer

They have McCaw so none of this matters.

Marks is talking about eventual extensions for Klay and Green which won't affect this summer.

Curry's cap hold this summer is about 18mil. They can sign everyone else they need to, then go over the cap to sign Curry.

If Durant opts in, they'll start with about 15mil to re-sign Iggy, Livingston and add any other FAs of note. (they could actually use the full MLE in this case, though)

If Durant wants his max, they have about 6-7mil to sign everyone.

So if Durant opts in, they can keep the bench together. If he wants his max, they lose their bench.

Wow. Well let's hope Durant plays "big bank takes little bank" with his Warriors teammates
