Owners and players ratify new deal

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Marks is talking about eventual extensions for Klay and Green which won't affect this summer.

Curry's cap hold this summer is about 18mil. They can sign everyone else they need to, then go over the cap to sign Curry.

If Durant opts in, they'll start with about 15mil to re-sign Iggy, Livingston and add any other FAs of note. (they could actually use the full MLE in this case, though)

If Durant wants his max, they have about 6-7mil to sign everyone.

So if Durant opts in, they can keep the bench together. If he wants his max, they lose their bench.

Under the new CBA both of them (Green+Klay) could demand their contracts adjusted to Supermax levels (35% of the cap) because of their performance.

They can renegotiate due to meeting certain criteria, Hes talking about renegotiations, They are both eligible for a super max this summer.

It's highly likely their agents/NBPA will push hard for them to renegotiate their contracts & ask for the max or at least very close to the max. Unless Klay & Green decide they want to sacrifice an absurd amount of money, the Warriors have a huge problem on their hands next season.

Do we already know what the cap is going to be?

I didn't realize they could do that with Curry.

With so many max contracts at the new cba inGS, they would make our payroll look like chump changed and would cost them 100 million or something stupid in luxury tax.

I dont believe if everyone deserving in GS wants a max its as easy as you pointed out.

They are going to have a legitimately tough time holding that team together.

I may be misunderstanding, but I am under the impression that the supermax is only for extensions, and you can only sign an extension in the last year of your current deal.

If they keep KD, Curry, Klay and Green, they definitely will be looking at a hefty tax bill eventually, for sure. They can fit them all under the cap this offseason, though, and use Bird rights going forward on everyone.

under cap? no.

35% for durant and curry. so assuming a 103 cap, that is 72.1, klay and green make 34 combine so total of 106

They have 3 rookie contracts equaling another 4 mill about so 8 players, 110 mill

Luxury tax with a 103 cap begins at 123. If they use birds rights on Iggy, Thompson livingston and zaza that could be pricey, last year they made a combined 27 mill, even a conservative 15% raise gives them 31 mill more for those 2 guys.

that puts them at 141 million, and that is only 8 players. If they do league min and other smaller amounts to fill out a roster, still puts them well over 150 million, next year

now that is 30 million over the luxury tax or so. This could cost 80 mill or so in tax, very expensive.

Not under the new CBA. they can now readjust, as the current contracts they're on now were contracts signed from when they first became free agents. under the new CBA two players are eligible for a 6-year contract (5+1 year left on contract).

So basically under the new CBA you don't have to wait until your last year to get an extension, if you meet a certain criteria you can renegotiate, Green & Klay both meet the Criteria & can demand a max contract this summer.

It's was made possible now under the new CBA because it would be unfair for the players to not be able to access to all of their benefits after the union just fought for them.

Curry only has a cap hold of 18 mil, so Durant's max + 34 +18 puts them at 88. about 10 mil for the rest of the roster + roster holds still has them under 103.

Can you post a link to this information? Not doubting you, just don't know where the best place is to find all these details.

By this 5+1 logic, aren't Kyrie and Kevin going to ask for larger contracts as well?

@Lee do the Warriors have Zaza's bird rights? Didn't he sign a 1 year deal as a free agent?

Cap hold yes, but once he signs he will be 35 mill.

Not talking about getting them all signed, i am talking about once they are all signed.

You do realize a cap hold is only before the season while they are signing players, once curry signs, he will be at 34 million.

Most of it is explained really well by people on this thread.

If you want to read more on the DPE (designated player extension) & criteria you can check out this Washington Post article.

I am not arguing that they can keep Curry, Klay, Green and KD AND have any money left over to fill out their roster. I am saying they can keep all 4 of them.

I'm still waiting for something detailed about the Salary cap changes as a whole. apparently it will function differently from prior CBA's.

Best so far

The 2 sides haven't formally signed the new CBA yet. All they technically did was agree to an extension of the deadline to formally sign it. No one outside of the process knows for sure what is exactly being agreed to. It will be signed soon, and then released, and then we'll know all of the changes for sure.
