People have been suggesting that that Cavs will draft a PG in the upcoming draft if Griffin doesn't trade the pick. Let's just pretend that Griffin isn't allergic to draft picks and look at the upcoming draft class and assume that the Cavs draft a Dion/Delly replacement.

If that's the case, there are a lot of PG's in the mid/late first round that fit that billing. More than one of these guys should fall to #24. There's a lot to like in many of these guys.

Here's some clipping from the ESPN draft profiles:

Kris Dunn - 6'3"
Positives
Versatile guard who can score from anywhere on the floor
Great size for his position
Excellent slasher
Very, very quick with the ball
Improving jump shooter
Sees the floor very well
Racks up a crazy amount of steals
Excellent athlete
Negatives
Needs to improve shot selection
Can be turnover prone

Jerian Grant - 6'5"
Positives
Long, athletic guard
Great size for his position
Can play both the one and the two
Excels at slashing to the basket
Gets to the free throw line
Good defender with lateral quickness
Excellent passer, sees the floor well
Excellent leadership qualities
Negatives
Needs to improve his jump shot
Can be too unselfish

Cameron Payne 6'2"
Positives
Intelligent, crafty "pure" point guard
Has terrific court vision
Great feel for the game
Improving shooter
Quick
Negatives
Needs to add strength
Not an explosive athlete

Tyus Jones - 6'1"
Positives
True PG
Very high basketball IQ
Elite court vision
Great balance between scoring and passing the ball
Quick first step
Improved shooter with three point range
Tough
Negatives
Lacks elite physical tools
Not particularly explosive or fast
Needs to continue to work on his jumper

Terry Rozier 6'2"
Positives
Strong, athletic guard
Has very good length for his position
Very quick, can get where ever he wants on the floor
Strong finisher in the paint
Effective midrange jumper off the bounce
Very good defender
Showed solid touch from three as a freshman
Good rebounder
Negatives
Needs more consistency shooting from three
Can be turnover prone
Can over dribble the ball
A tweener? Doesn't see the floor particularly well

Delon Wright - 6'5"
Positives
Great size for his position
Good passer, sees the floor well
Excellent rebounder for his position
Quick first step allows him to get to the line
Good defensive player who racks up steals
Improved three point shooter as a senior
Negatives
Will turn 23 before the 2015 NBA Draft
Not an elite shooter from beyond the arc

I think we trade it to get a know commodity, although i think all the prospects you picked could find a role on this team next year. I think griff values athleticism and defence from his bench judging by the shooting we have at other positions

After a quick overview of all their highlights, I'd probably prefer Dunn or Grant. Although Rozier HEAVILY reminds me of a young Wade. I mean like Kobe copying Jordan in a type of way. But LeBron probably prefers Tyus Jones because of the Duke connection and LeBron gets what LeBron wants.

We need a backup to LeBron way more.

Draft a SF.
Dekker, Hollis Jefferson, or Justin Anderson? Wouldn't mind a good center if they fell either. Good news about the Cavs at this point is that we can take BPA. We can bolster our bench in any way. I hope we pick up an early-mid 2nd because there will be some really good players that fall.

it has been a four years, but the need to draft a young center with upside is still important for the cavs.

I think we'll draft a wing and trade for a PG.

If we do draft a PG, I'm hoping Dunn falls to us.

Chris Dunn seems like the best possible option and his flaws would be least likely to impact the Cavs.

Delon Wright seems like the guy most likely to be available. Grant & Wright are interesting because they can defend multiple positions, but perhaps they are too much like Shumpert.

Two things that have confused me about the draft discussion so far:

1. LeBron has personally recruited outside shooting specialists at the wings and forward positions. With that in mind, it is hard for me to envision the Cavaliers going hard after a guy like Hollis Jefferson who not only has no shooting range, but has very little to offer on offense in other aspects. I get it that he us young and can improve, but coaches have been trying to teach him to shoot for years without success. I don't see the fit with LBJ and KI.

2. Why are we discussing players like Dekker who will be gone 10 spots ahead of where the Cavaliers will draft at 24? There were years where a trade up made sense. This year isn't one of them.

Been saying the same thing about Kaminsky in the draft thread...yet people keep thinking there is a chance he falls to 24.

As for PGs in this draft, I don't think they will get a shot at Jones after the Final 4 he had, but that might be a blessing in disguise if they do in fact take a PG (I still don't believe they will). I'm with everyone who keeps mentioning Delon Wright's name. If they do decide to replace Delly, or bump him down the depth chart, I would really love someone who could come in and play both the 1 and 2, and can guard both the 1 and 2, like Delly already does...just gives the team a lot of flexibility with the lineups. Not to mention he has some family pedigree in the league already with Dorell (if we take him, lets hope he shoots the 3 like his brother).

What's the point of drafting a PG then? What the team needs is someone that can orchestrate the offense when Kyrie's out so LeBron doesn't have to. Don't need anymore combo guards.

Guess you missed this part of my post..."As for PGs in this draft, I don't think they will get a shot at Jones after the Final 4 he had, but that might be a blessing in disguise if they do in fact take a PG (I still don't believe they will).

Mods can confirm or deny but I hear Cavs are very high on Payne

I am still worried of AV's ability to stay healthy so I will go for a young Center playing the insurance role for next year.

You are hearing that because Griffin attended one of Murray State's NIT games personally. Seems like they are interested.
