Playoff Skins

So now that the Warriors have once again fucked everyone, I see people asking...what is the point of playing next season? I ask....if you don't win the championship, does that mean the entire season was pointless? Maybe we are putting too much emphasis on championships. What if we had a better way to keep score and find success outside of a championship. Is it really a great indicator of a franchise to win a title, or to have prolonged success?

For example, the Cleveland Indians have been a much better team than the Chicago Cubs or Kansas City Royals in the last 25 years, but have no title to show for it. Is this a failure?

So I introduce the idea of playoff skins. You get a skin for winning a playoff series. And you can keep score against other teams. For example, the Cavs since 2014 have the following skins...Celtics, Bulls, Hawks, Pistons, Hawks, Raptors, Warriors, Pacers, Raptors, Celtics, Pacers, Raptors, Celtics. 13 skins! That's amazing. And while GS has 15 skins over that time period, hell 15-13 skins compared to 3-1 titles seems pretty good and better representative of what these two teams have done.

You can also hang that skin over the head of other teams. I don't know the numbers, but I would imagine the head to head Cavs v. Celtics skins count is a lot closer than 17 titles to 1 title. This also gives newer teams the same chance to compete with the original teams. OKC can claim superiority over the Lakers or something like that in the skins game.

Well we can play for skins. We can keep score that way. Gives incentive not to tank as well.

What does everyone think? When I have time I'll try to put together an NBA skins count. It will take some doing but I like the concept. (I am open to names other than "Skins" as well)

There are a bunch of skins there that you win each time you level up.

Started playing a week ago, and it's addicting. Not that fun, but certainly addicting.

I get the idea and I think it has merit. I know the NBA is all about championship or tanking now. I think making the playoffs consistently is something that helps with how players view teams. We might actually have a easier time if Gilbert can just make the Cavs into a team that always makes the playoffs. Maybe everything comes together and we compete for a championship but the bottom is making the playoffs. I think it would be appealing to free agents.
